- Performance issues and feeling forced into meta builds are the main concerns for players.
Grinding Gear Games’ action RPG Path of Exile 2 has faced “Mixed” recent reviews on Steam after the release of its latest content update. Players are blaming one aspect in particular for their Path of Exile 2 reviews being negative.
Path of Exile 2 launched into Early Access in December 2024, featuring only a fraction of the content planned for the full release. Reactions to Path of Exile 2‘s Early Access launch were largely positive, with an understanding that the game had taken big steps to improve over its predecessor while also acknowledging that there’s a lot more to come from Grinding Gear Games. However, as with any Early Access game, things can rapidly change during development, and the Path of Exile 2 community is not shy about making its feelings known to the developer.

Path of Exile 2’s new Huntress Ascendancy classes are seemingly very powerful, and one of them is about to be the next big thing.
The recent reviews for Path of Exile 2 on Steam have officially fallen to “Mixed,” although the overall score remains “Mostly Positive.” This is a sign that the game is heading in a direction that players don’t like, with the majority of the negative reviews coming after Path of Exile 2‘s recent Dawn of the Hunt update. While the update did bring a new playable class and a revamp to the game’s endgame, the player reviews are focused mainly on the slow progression in the latest update, as well as some significant performance issues.
Players Blame Slow Progression For Path of Exile Reviews
One review from Steam user vuthia says, “Dawn of the hunt made it into a slog fest. you are forced to play a meta build in order to kill and do anything,” while another from user Hellexion states that, “Every boss fight is incredibly longer than it needs to be. Most of the skills do little to no damage.” Various players have reported that Patch 0.2.0 has also caused some performance problems, although this seems secondary to most players’ concerns about the new pace of the game. It’s understandably frustrating if players feel as though they’re being railroaded into using certain Path of Exile 2 classes just to be able to play the game.
Grinding Gear Games has already released a few hotfixes for the Dawn of the Hunt update, although it has yet to address the most common player complaints so far. It hasn’t released a Path of Exile 2 Early Access roadmap, either, so players are in the dark about what is coming next in the game. The good news is that the game’s Early Access status means it has plenty of time to get things right, and hopefully Grinding Gear Games can pull back those “Mixed” reviews in the future.
