With the Final Saga well underway, new and popular characters have become a commonplace occurrence in One Piece. Especially with the official introduction of the Giants of Elbaf, and the God’s Knights both within the newest Elbaf Arc, it seems like the final pieces of the series are all falling into place. Although introducing so many of these new, important characters, like the God’s Knights, so late in the series may seem like a bad thing, most fans have seemed to be fairly impressed by the new additions to the cast so far.
This is especially true for one specific member of the God’s Knights who has shot through the ranks of popularity, quickly becoming one of the most discussed characters in the series: Gunko. While this character may seem fairly straightforward at first, being a part of the incredibly evil World Government and God’s Knights organizations, there are some unique details surrounding Gunko that give her more layers than her colleagues. In fact, especially with the newest chapter of One Piece, many fans are starting to believe that there may be big plans for Gunko in the future of the series.

During the Elbaf Arc of One Piece, the series introduced one of the most infamous villain groups, the God’s Knights. This World Noble organization sets out to defend the interests of the Celestial Dragons. Although they haven’t been mentioned in the series for long, being introduced as early as the end of the Wano Arc, they seem to be an important group for the Final Saga, as well as already being major antagonists in the Elbaf Arc.
We should simply erase him. – Gunko on Loki
So far, only a few members of the God’s Knights have been revealed, one of which is Gunko. Wielding the power of the Arrow-Arrow Fruit, Gunko is both arrogant and prone to anger, similar to many of her fellow God’s Knights. However, throughout the arc, Gunko is also shown possessing some strange personality quirks, like an extreme fear of the Sun God Nika, and a love of Brook’s music.

- She May Have Been A Slave Of The Celestial Dragons
In a Reddit post by bodg123, the One Piece fan presents a theory that, based on her personality, which differs slightly from the other God’s Knights, she may have a different origin than them. Mainly, this Reddit user believes that Gunko may have originally been a slave of the Celestial Dragons that was given the Arrow-Arrow Devil Fruit under similar circumstances as the Gorgon Sisters. The user continues by explaining that although the audience initially believed they did this for simple entertainment, they may have actually been giving slaves Devil Fruits to create warriors for the God’s Knights, and Gunko may be one of them.

Although Luffy and Blackbeard are very similar, this is the biggest difference between them.
From here, the theorist believes that throughout the Elbaf Arc of One Piece, Gunko will eventually turn a new leaf, joining the side of the Straw Hats. This Reddit user and other fans in the comments believe that since Gunko enjoys listening to Brook’s music that discusses the “New World”, she may be looking for a different life that isn’t with the God’s Knights. Although what this new life is specifically is still unknown, it may be related to Luffy.

She May Be A Spy In The God’s Knights
Outside this theory, other fans have come together to discuss the future of this strange character. Firstly, to get it out of the way, some fans have started rallying behind the idea that, since she likes Brook’s music, Gunko may end up joining the Straw Hat Crew. However, so far at least, there is no evidence that Gunko would be anyone Luffy would wish to ally himself with. In fact, Gunko herself, being afraid of Nika, would never join the crew as well, without massive amounts of character development.
It’s not a ritual… I just like doing it. – Gunko
In the end, there really isn’t any hard evidence that proves whether this theory will come true or not. Still, it seems likely that, compared to the other members of One Piece’s God’s Knights, there is more to Gunko than meets the eye. Sadly, fans will have to wait for another chapter of One Piece to be released before receiving any more information on this interesting member of the God’s Knights.
