The long-rumored Oblivion remake could – I repeat, could – be closer than you think. With months of scuttlebutt suggesting Bethesda and Xbox are poised to reveal the colossal reinvention any day now, another piece of potential evidence has emerged. So if you’re desperate for more The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion in your life, it’s time to put on the tinfoil hat.

With The Elder Scrolls 6 release date still a long way off, a remake of Oblivion is easily the next best thing. The project’s rumor mill has been working hard in recent years, but the last few months have been particularly busy. Multiple trusted reports allege the new version of Bethesda’s RPG will be dropping very soon, with some even saying we could be seeing it this April.

Jump forward to now, and the internet is ablaze with theories. One Steam version of Oblivion, specifically the Game of the Year Edition Deluxe, has received a mysterious update. On Thursday April 3 many of the game’s trailers were removed from Valve’s store, seemingly with no reason. The last update for this version of the game was November 2024 – five months ago.

The hope, and it really is a hope, is that this Steam update is somehow linked to Bethesda and Xbox gearing up for an announcement. Only time will tell if this is the case, but it’s always fun to put on the tinfoil hat and believe, right?

It’s worth noting that the standard GOTY edition of Oblivion hasn’t had a similar update in the last few days, so keep that in mind. Either way, with talk of an Oblivion remake at an all-time high and multiple sources claiming it’s coming soon, it doesn’t hurt to have a little hope.

While we wait to hopefully return to Cyrodiil, however, there are some other options. One group of intrepid modders has spent years rebuilding Oblivion inside Skyrim, and they’re almost finished. Another group, meanwhile, has introduced some of Oblivion’s landmass into Morrowind as part of an even bigger project.
