Monster Hunter Wilds: Long Sword Build Guide
The Long Sword is a fantastic weapon in Monster Hunter Wilds, but with our build, you’ll be slashing away like a master.
As such, along with the monster, you can also farm it and carve its parts to craft specific weapons and armor to upgrade your builds even further. If you’re looking for strategies that will help you hunt this monster quickly, this guide will help make the task easy for you.
How To Unlock Mizutsune
Since Mizutsune is part of the Title Update 1, this monster won’t be part of the main story quest, so it can be difficult for the players to locate the hunt. The first step to starting the hunt is meeting with Kanya in the Scarlet Forest.
She will let you know that there is a problem when something has been eating the fish, which is leading to a food shortage for the Wudwud. This will trigger the quest Spirit in the Moonlight which is the hunting quest for the Mizutsune.
You have to finish Kanya’s side quest, Fishing: Life, in Microcosm, which is the first fishing quest for the Mizutsune quest to appear.
After defeating the monster, the Optional Quest Bubbling Crimson Flowers will unlock, which will let you hunt the monster as many times as you want. Additionally, Tempered Mizutsune will occasionally show up on the map with extra rewards such as Artian weapon materials and Decorations.

Mizutsune is a water monster, which means Thunder is one of the most effective elements against the monster. Ice is also very good, though if given the choice alongside Thunder and Dragon, the latter two will be your preference over the former.
While in the fight, you should focus on the mouth and the head, as those two are easily breakable. If you want to break its tail, consider using a Slashing or a Piercing weapon. As for the rest of the body parts, blunt damage will be quite effective.

When it comes to your weapon of choice, the Long Sword is a very safe bet against Mizutsune. Craft an Artian Long Sword with a focus on Attack and Thunder, which will trivialize the fight. If not, you can also go for the Tonitrus Clairblade, which is the Rey Dau Long Sword. The Long Sword offers a good balance between offense and defense due to its high damage and evasive movesets, making it perfect to shut down this monster.
The issue with the Rey Dau Long Sword is that its base Affinity is low, which will make it hard to trigger Critical Hits.
As for armor, it’s better to go for high offense, which you can achieve with Gore Magala’s set combined with Arkveld and Guardian Ebony Odogaron’s pieces. Gore Magala’s armor inflicts you with Frenzy, which upon curing, grants Affinity. You can attach Sane Jewel to your armor set for Antivirus buff, which further boosts Affinity. Arkveld’s set provides Weakness Exploit, and with Guardian Ebony Odogaron’s pieces, you get Burst, which enhances Elemental builds.
The good part about this armor set is that all the skills, such as Antivirus, Weakness Exploit, and Burst, synergize well with the Long Sword.
Mizutsune – Fight Breakdown And Moves
Mizutsune is part of Title Update 1, which means you cannot find a Low Rank version of this monster. You will need to be Hunter Rank 21 to access the fight, though the boss isn’t too hard and should be manageable even for a new player, especially if you have already fought Arkveld and Gore Magala, which are significantly harder.
For starters, Mizutsune primarily relies on releasing Bubbles throughout the field. These bubbles have knockback, and they also inflict you with Bubbleblight which makes you slip while walking. While you fight the monster, the field will be littered with Bubbles, and you must dodge them.
You can break the Bubbles with your weapons, so if you are finding it hard to reach the monster, just use your weapon to burst them.
Additionally, Mizutsune will occasionally release a water beam in a 180-degree arc, which will inflict you with Waterblight and knock you down. It also deals a lot of damage, especially if it’s the Tempered version of the monster. However, while it starts the beam, you will have the chance to rush behind the monster, which will allow you to dodge the attack completely.
One of Miuztsune’s most damaging moves is its tail slam, where it will perform a vertical spin and smash its tail on the ground. This move does a lot of damage, and if you fight the Tempered version, it will cart you in one hit. There’s no trick to dodge it as the moment it performs the spin, get ready to either block or use your weapon’s evasive move to stop the attack from knocking you down. It will take a few tries to get hold of the timing.
In Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate, Soulseer Mizutsune was a variant in itself. However, in Wilds, that form is included within the normal version of the monster. In the normal version of the fight, this move activates when you break its mouth, but if you fight the Tempered version, it activates the Soulseer mode automatically.
Finally, once you break Mizutsune’s mouth, it enters the Soulseer mode, where its face will glow blue. In this form, it will release blue Bubbles which will inflict you with Fireblight. These Bubbles deal a lot of damage, and you must dodge them no matter the state of the fight.
The monster also has a charge attack where it will dash at you while sliding over its Bubbles. This move is easy to dodge as you can just walk past its path. However, the monster can combine this move with its spin into the tail slam, so never let go of the monster’s sight.
