Laurence Fishburne Is Thrilled For A Potential Return To John Wick 5

John Wick 5 is officially in the works, and fans are thrilled with the news. One actor who has appeared in multiple movies from the franchise is hopeful to be part of the upcoming movie.

The John Wick series, starring Keanu Reeves as the titular lead, is one of the most successful franchises in Hollywood. It follows a legendary hitman who comes out of his retirement after his car was stolen and the puppy he received from his late wife was killed. The incident triggers a war between John Wick and an organized underground network of assassins. The first movie was released in 2014, and three sequels followed. John Wick: Chapter 4 hit theaters in 2023, and the ending alluded to John’s death. However, fans kept on asking whether there would be another movie. Reeves previously gave a disappointing answer, reminding fans that “He died in John Wick: Chapter 4.” However, with John Wick 5 being confirmed, even the actors involved in the franchise are excited by the news.

Laurence Fishburne, who plays the Bowery King in the franchise and has appeared in three John Wick movies — John Wick: Chapter 2 (2017), John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum (2019) and John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023) — recently spoke with ComicBook.com for his new film The Amateur. He was asked about his possible return to John Wick 5 since the movie had been confirmed, and the actor responded positively. He was more than willing to continue Bowery King’s story in the franchise. “It’s possible,” he replied. Reeves and Fishburne have a long history of working together because the pair have also co-starred in multiple The Matrix films. When asked what he preferred to work on first between John Wick 5 or a hypothetical Matrix 5, Fishburne said:

The Bowery King is one of the most significant, charismatic, influential, and entertaining characters in the John Wick franchise. Having appeared in three movies, he has already gained his own cult following, making him a fan-favorite in John Wick. He is one of John’s key allies in the fight against the High Table. The Bowery King has resources, networks, and a personal grudge against the High Table after it punishes him and kills his people for helping John. In the last film, his connection and partnership with John was evident. He helped the assassin prepare for the duel against Caine, was with Winston when they visited John’s grave, and even looked after John’s dog after his apparent death.

The Bowery King’s relationship with John Wick is both surprising and impressive. In John Wick: Chapter 2, the Bowery King revealed their history. John Wick fatally wounded him but did not kill him. The encounter had seemingly changed his life because he said he could have chosen to shoot John and die or let John go and live. He chose the latter. When John needed help, the Bowery King used his resources. Although they have a complicated relationship, what they have is built on mutual respect, trust, and understanding of the brutal world they live in. Yes, their bond isn’t based on friendship but on their shared goal of survival and bringing down the corrupt High Table.
