The final boss of Monster Hunter Wilds is Zoh Shia, a massive, crystal-laden creature that feeds off the Dragontorch. However, unlike every other large monster in the game, there were no more opportunities to square off against it after killing it in the campaign, meaning it sadly didn’t offer any equipment to grind for.
That all changes with Title Update 1; an additional story quest, A First Cry, has been added, which introduces High Rank Zoh Shia into the game. Slaying it will reward you with brand-new material drops, which you can use to make armor and weapons themed around the beast.
Talk To Werner
The quest will begin after speaking to Werner in Suja. He will inform you that Zoh Shia is still active, and it’s up to you to investigate by heading back to the Dragontorch.
Alma will urge you not to depart unprepared, and you will have time to equip the armor and items you need before leaving. Make sure to cook a meal for yourself, as High Rank Zoh Shia is much more difficult than its Low Rank counterpart, so you’ll need all the help you can get.
When you’re ready to leave, speak to Alma, and you’ll be taken to the encounter.
Zoh Shia Boss Fight
The High Rank Zoh Shia fight is very similar to the final boss battle. Make sure to avoid its AoE attacks, which are usually heavily telegraphed by its animations and markings on the floor. It’s weak to the Dragon element, so weapons imbued with that attribute are recommended.
Throughout the encounter, Zoh Shia will summon Wylkrystals. It will target them with attacks in order to damage you, but they can be neutralized if you preemptively shoot them with elemental Slinger ammo found around the arena.
Once the monster has been slain, you’ll be greeted with another cutscene. Erik will inform you that Zoh Shia can revive itself through a process similar to asexual reproduction, meaning you’ll probably be encountering it again in the future. Afterward, the quest is completed, and you’ll be awarded your Guild Points and Hunter Rank progression.
You have now unlocked High Rank Zoh Shia hunts. Unfortunately, as of Title Update 1, there is no optional quest you gain immediate access to for easy farming, but you can save Zoh Shia investigations when they pop up in Ruins of Wyveria.
