Battle Traits and Augments are essential to survival in Xenoblade Chronicles X. Here’s everything you need to know about them.

The strongest of those Tyrants, Telethia the Endbringer, lies in the Divine Roost area of Noctilum. While many players may get distracted by the huge ethereal bird circling overhead, the small bug sitting inside the flower in this area, known as Joker, the Unknowable, is a tyrant you shouldn’t overlook. This guide will detail how to defeat Joker, the Unknowable, and why it’s worth your time to do so.

Preparations To Make

First and foremost, let’s go over Joker’s information.

Joker, the Unknowable is a level 90 blatta tyrant located inside the giant flower in Noctilum’s Divine Roost. To get there, you’ll need to have the Skell Flight Module, meaning that you need to have at least completed Chapter 9 of the main story.

He doesn’t have a lot of health, but he makes up for that with the several lower-level blattas in the area with him. Thankfully, we can use this to our advantage and try to take them all out at once for a large amount of experience.

Skells

Use a higher-level Skell for this fight, which you can unlock by maxing out Sakuraba Industries at the AM Manager in Armory Alley. Doing this will unlock level 50 versions of all the base Skells in the game, which have more health and can do more damage.

Of these level 50 Skells, the XS0650 Mastema ST or the XS0750 Amdusias are likely your best bet to tank enough damage to make this strategy work, although you could potentially make it work with the level 30 versions of these Skells as well, along with the craftable level 60 versions.

Weapons

The key weapon for this strategy is going to be the SRM-R450GG Phoenix, a thermal area-of-effect attack that, with the right setup, can instantly kill every enemy inside the flower while doing big damage to Joker.

For your Skell, we are looking to equip an SAM-M154SA Shield on one arm and an SAM-M151SA Shield on the other. These two shields provide arts that boost ranged attack and ranged accuracy, respectively, which will be very helpful for the upcoming battle.

We also recommend equipping a weapon to all of your other weapon slots to increase your chances of activating Cockpit Time while in your Skell, just in case one use of the Phoenix isn’t enough to get the job done.

Augments

Next, head over to the AM Manager and select the Engineer Augments option. For the final part of this build, we want to craft three Slayer.INSECTOID XX augments to attach to our Phoenix cannon, each of which boosts damage dealt to insectoid enemies like Joker by 40 percent.

If your Phoenix cannon only has two augment slots, head over to L’s shop in Armory Alley to unlock the third slot for 40,000 miranium. If you haven’t unlocked L’s shop yet, complete the quest Booming Business for L, also available in Armory Alley.

You may also want to assign similar Skell loadouts to the party members you’re bringing to this fight.

Fighting Joker, The Unknowable

At the beginning of the fight, Joker will be surrounded by several smaller Blatta enemies, each around level 60.

Begin by using the two shield arts you bought and equipped during preparation to increase your ranged attack and ranged accuracy.

Then, unleash your Phoenix cannon. Every smaller Blatta will die almost instantly, and you will deal a high amount of damage to Joker, the Unknowable.

Defeating so many enemies at once will likely give you enough GP to activate your Skell’s Overdrive, which will make taking Joker out much easier.

From this point, you should try to activate cockpit time as much as possible or use Skell quick cooldown on your Phoenix cannon if you’ve completed Chapter 13, Act 3 of the main story.

Joker, the Unknowable does have a lot of evasion, so one or two hits of your Phoenix cannon could miss.

However, with the combined effort of your Skell Overdrive and your party members backing you up, you should be able to take Joker out relatively quickly after defeating all his minions.

Upon defeating Joker and his allies, you’ll receive a great number of chest drops, which can contain very powerful level 60 gear.

The real reward for defeating Joker is the sheer amount of regular experience and class experience you get for taking out all of these enemies at once. This makes this a very easy way to master every class in the game on your avatar character.
