Summary
- Eri’s Rewind Quirk draws both heroes and villains while being a blessing and a curse for her.
- Eri’s Quirk is used to create deadly Quirk-destroying bullets in a cruel manner by Overhaul.
- Eri’s ability plays a crucial role in helping heroes like Mirio and Midoriya during key battles.
In the world of My Hero Academia, Quirks can come in all kinds of weird and unique forms, but by far one of the most powerful in the series is Rewind, an ability possessed by a young and innocent girl by the name of Eri. As the name implies, this Quirk allows Eri to reverse a person’s physical state by making contact with them, and needless to say, this has resulted in many characters, heroes and villains alike, wanting to get their hands on her to make use of it.

My Hero Academia: Every Season Of The Anime, Ranked
My Hero Academia has been popular since its first episode, but not all of the shonen anime’s seasons are of the same quality.
In truth, Rewind has been somewhat of a curse for Eri, considering it has essentially put a target on her back and also resulted in her having a pretty harsh upbringing. However, throughout My Hero Academia‘s story, she has also been able to use it for the sake of good, and it’s fair to say that if the Rewind Quirk never existed, the overall plot would have been a lot different, considering how commonly it is used.

Overhaul
The Malicious Overhaul Used His Quirk In Conjunction With Eri’s To Create Quirk-Destroying Bullets
After seeing the way Overhaul treats Eri after taking her from her home, it’s hard not to hate this villain’s guts. Overhaul sees the world as being plagued by “Hero Syndrome”, and as a way to cleanse Japan of the infectious disease, he decides to use Eri’s Rewind Quirk as a way to create bullets which can remove a person’s Quirk entirely.
The way he goes about doing this, though, while not made explicitly clear in the source material, is implied to be very inhumane and brutal, considering Overhaul’s own Quirk allows him to take apart and restructure anything he lays his hands on, including a human being. While Overhaul didn’t, therefore, use Rewind on himself, he did still manage to conjure up a deadly weapon by extracting it from poor little Eri before he was apprehended by Midoriya and Mirio.

Mirio
Eri Would Help Mirio Get Back Up To Speed For The Final War
While Mirio is more than happy to put his own life on the line to save Eri from the clutches of Overhaul, one thing he didn’t expect to lose during the intense confrontation was his Quirk. Mirio would be the first victim of Overhaul’s Quirk-Destroying Bullets, and considering how hard he had trained to make any kind of practical use of his Permeation ability, it’s truly heartbreaking seeing the hero trying to maintain a smile moments after having his hopes and dreams crushed.

They may not have seemed all that important at first, but these My Hero Academia characters ended up having a big impact on the story.
This had many fans wondering whether Mirio would even be fit to partake in the final battle, but thankfully, after a long rest, Eri finally felt able to use her Rewind Quirk to help Mirio regain his Quirk back just in time. Mirio would prove to be a crucially important ally for the heroes during the initial battle against Shigaraki, so if Eri hadn’t plucked up the courage when she did, one can only imagine how much more chaos the villain could have caused.

Midoriya
Midoriya Called On Eri To Prevent Him From Tearing His Body Apart
After Overhaul transforms into a giant mutant-like monster, it becomes clear to Midoriya that he’s going to need to push his body to its limit in order to utilize enough of One For All’s power to deal any significant damage. As he had already found out with Muscular though, going 100% takes a massive toll on his physical health, so to counteract this shortcoming, Midoriya asked Eri to activate Rewind so that he could remain in the form without harming himself in the process.
As a result, Midoriya was able to pummel Overhaul with a barrage of ferocious attacks until, eventually, he succeeds in taking down the dangerous Mafia villain for good. This was by far the most creative way Eri’s Quirk has been used in the series, and it’s also a clever way to show Eri overcoming her abuser without her needing to do the fighting herself. Eri would once again help Midoriya out with Rewind by gifting him a shard of her horn much later in the story, which he would use to restore his limbs during the final battle.

All For One
All For One Makes Use Of Rewind To Become Younger, Faster, And Stronger
When he first debuts in the series, All For One already has the ability to steal and possess multiple Quirks, but in the final war, he manages to bolster his strength even further by using a manufactured version of Rewind to make him younger. With all the heroes standing against him, including the absurdly powerful Endeavor, All For One decided to slowly regress his physical body so that he could keep up, and for a while, he seemed more or less unbeatable.

All For One loves the sound of his own voice, and as a result, he has let out a fair share of iconic quotes that feed into his villainous persona.
However, it soon becomes clear that inflicting damage causes the Quirk to go into overdrive as AFO grows younger at a faster rate, which is why it becomes a top priority for the heroes to throw out everything they have in the hopes of accelerating the side effect as much as possible. The fact that the main villain of the entire series decided to rely on Rewind to keep him going in this epic confrontation shows just how powerful of an ability it truly is since if there’s anyone who would know a good Quirk when they see one, it would be this guy.

Eri
Rewind’s Primary User Learns The Benefits Her Quirk Can Offer Over The Course Of The Story
Most of the time, when Eri is using her Rewind Quirk, she does so in order to benefit an ally or is being forced to activate it by a dangerous villain. When Eri is introduced to the story, she struggles to utilize Rewind and seems rather afraid of it, which makes sense, considering she accidentally killed her own father after zapping him out of existence. Once Midoriya and Mirio come to her rescue, though, Eri begins using Rewind here and there to help the heroes out, even removing herself from Overhaul’s grasp by turning back time all on her own.
Considering the dangerous implications of using the Quirk too liberally, Eri keeps the ability under wraps for much of the series, though she does still take the initiative when the stakes get too high. During the final war, for example, Eri disobeys the heroes’ orders and breaks off her own horn to give to Midoriya as a way to assist him without her needing to enter the battlefield herself.
