Ubisoft could be working on an all-new turn-based tactics game, and it’s allegedly a spinoff of Rainbow Six Siege. A new report claims that the company behind Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry is transforming its live service FPS hit into another genre entirely, and it sounds as though it’ll take a lot of inspiration from the XCOM games. So if you’ve been itching for more tense decision-making after XCOM 2’s War of the Chosen DLC, Ubisoft may just have you covered.
According to a new Insider Gaming report, two sources told the publication that this Rainbow Six Siege adjacent strategy game will have a top-down view similar to Diablo 4 or XCOM. One of the sources allegedly told IG to “just watch some XCOM gameplay if you want to get an idea, I’d say it’s an updated version of that with cinematic cutscenes and so on.”
The core gameplay loop is even supposed to be a lot like Rainbow Six Siege, where players would select operators with different skills, raid buildings, save hostages, and skillfully take out opponents. As of right now the runtime comes in at around 25 to 30 hours, but that could change if anything gets cut, the sources say.

While Insider Gaming doesn’t mention which Ubisoft studio is making the game, the company does already have some XCOM-like experience. The incredibly well received Mario + Rabbids turn-based tactics games were developed by Ubisoft Milan and Paris for Nintendo Switch, so it’s perfectly possible that both studios are working on the Rainbow Six game next. The director of both Mario + Rabbids games, Davide Soliani, left Ubisoft last year “to embark on a new adventure” however, meaning he wouldn’t be in charge of this game.
If you want to discover what this XCOM-inspired Rainbow Six game might be like, we actually contemplated this exact possibility back in 2021. Joe called it ‘Rainbow Six Tactics’ and posited that it might lean on the characterisations present in Chimera Squad. Siege has all the pieces: operators, weapons, gadgets, and so on, so we could be in for a treat.
As for when we can expect this rumored Rainbow Six Siege spinoff, it’s likely one or two years away with the report detailing plans to launch on PS5, Xbox Series, and PC.
