The Witcher 4 is far off, lending to plenty of speculation. Announced at last year’s Game Awards, the first glimpse of The Witcher 4 brought forth exciting confirmations about what to expect from the game. This time around, Ciri takes the stage as the story’s protagonist, and there are already some intriguing combat shake-ups that have been teased to accompany this change.
One of the most notable differences is Ciri’s new chain weapon. Of course, this chain could simply be a weapon crafted for the announcement trailer, but it would be surprising if CD Projekt Red showcased such a cool item without delivering on it. It’s unclear exactly how this chain weapon will be utilized, but The Witcher 4 could find inspiration from Monolith’s ill-fated Wonder Woman project.

A Witcher 4 developer explains one difference players will immediately notice between Geralt and Ciri as protagonists.
The Witcher 4 Could Look to Wonder Woman’s Lasso of Truth
In the announcement trailer for The Witcher 4, Ciri fights a monster with this chain. Using it as a weapon is a no-brainer, but taking influence from the character of Wonder Woman could open the door to even more item uses. In the comic books, Wonder Woman is known to use her Lasso of Truth to interrogate antagonists, as the item renders them unable to lie. It’s unclear how Monolith’s canceled Wonder Woman game was planning on using the tool, but The Witcher 4 could be the next best place for such a mechanic to come to life.
A full-blown Lasso of Truth-inspired item is unlikely to appear in The Witcher 4, but Ciri’s chain could easily be used in a similar way. Tying up enemies and pushing them to confess details important to quests could deepen the game’s immersion, even if her chain can’t literally compel them to answer her questions truthfully.
This intriguing chain weapon is bound to open the door to a lot of fresh combat mechanics, but making it a useful way to interact with enemies in a non-violent way would give players more agency, too. The Witcher franchise has made itself known as a strong RPG, and including a less aggressive method of dealing with adversaries may give players extra freedom in how they wish to play Ciri.
Wonder Woman was unveiled at the 2021 Game Awards and canceled this year.
Ciri’s Chain Weapon Could Be The Witcher 4’s Best Addition
In addition to combat and a potential Lasso of Truth-esque interrogation technique, the chain could also be a brand-new means of traversal. Grappling branches and swinging over large pits or using the chain as a climbing rope may prove to be some of the biggest game-changers that The Witcher 4 introduces. Ultimately, it remains to be seen just how involved of an item this chain will be, but CD Projekt Red is sitting on a lot of potential.
Alongside Wonder Woman‘s cancelation, developer Monolith was also shut down.
The Witcher 4 Has a Long Road Ahead
While nothing has been confirmed, speculation and theories have suggested a potential 2027 launch window for The Witcher 4. However, until CD Projekt Red confirms something, any word of a predicted release target should be taken with a grain of salt.
Even if the game is years away, it’s thrilling to know it’s on the horizon. The new path of The Witcher 4 is compelling, and it will be intriguing to see a deeper dive into the game once CD Projekt Red is ready. Ciri’s chain remains mysterious, but it has the potential to be the best opportunity for Wonder Woman fans to get a taste of playing as Diana.
