Summary
- Elbaf arc follows Egghead incident
- Initial speculation Usopp’s arc, but now Robin spotlight
- Robin’s intellect, Poneglyph knowledge crucial.
The Elbaf arc takes place after the Egghead incident, in which the Straw Hat pirates narrowly escaped with their lives. The Elbaf arc is set in the nation of giants, one of the few places in One Piece that is not affiliated with the World Government. It has been mentioned in the story multiple times, but fans had to wait for more than 1,000 chapters to finally see what it looked like.
Before the Straw Hat Pirates set foot on Elbaf, there was a great deal of speculation that it would be Usopp’s arc, as he was the one who was always excited whenever giants were mentioned. However, Eiichiro Oda might go down a different road.

Nico Robin Has Endured All Kinds Of Atrocities
Nico Robin is the archaeologist of the Straw Hat Pirates. In terms of importance, she is easily among the top five most important crew members because she is the only one capable of deciphering the Poneglyphs. Without her, Luffy will never find One Piece and realize his dream of becoming the Pirate King.
Robin’s ability to understand the language used on the Poneglyphs is both a blessing and a curse. Since most of the world knows about her connection to Ohara, she has been a constant target for numerous organizations. Due to this reason, Robin has been on the run since her childhood. She couldn’t even stay with her relatives, as they were trying to hand her over to the Marines in exchange for the reward.
Robin temporarily allied with Crocodile, who offered her protection in exchange for her knowledge. Since the relationship hinges on Robin’s ability, she was never quite safe. After years of dealing with evil people, she finally met the Straw Hat Pirates, who treated her as a friend and not a tool.
How Nico Robin Will Play An Important Role In The Elbaf Arc
Initially, there was no reason to assume that Robin would dominate the proceedings in Elbaf, but that changed in the Egghead arc. The revelation about Jaguar D. Saul being alive and well flipped the script and put Robin in the spotlight. Now, she had more than one reason to go to Elbaf. Robin had only made it so far because of Saul’s speech. The latter had told her to live as she would find true friends someday. Without Saul, the Straw Hats would never have met their archaeologist.
Robin and Saul have already reunited in the Elbaf arc, and it’s safe to say that it was a beautiful moment. After their reunion, Saul and Robin went to the library to go through the books left behind by the scholars of Ohara and any other notable individuals.
Robin Can Decipher Poneglyphs
Nico Robin has high intellect, which she has proven time and time again. She can discern things quicker than most, and her ability to decipher the Poneglyphs is another valuable asset. It is likely that there is a Poneglyph somewhere on Elbaf, and Nico Robin will be the one to decipher it. Many fans believe that it could be a Road Poneglyph, which means Luffy could take a massive leap towards becoming the Pirate King.
Elbaf also has Harley texts, which are ancient scriptures that talk about legends like Nika. The texts also allude to events that are likely to occur in the future. Saul has already shown Robin the Harley texts, meaning she is aware of their existence. Since the Harley texts are so old, it is safe to assume that they might help Robin understand the events surrounding the Void Century better.
Be careful, Saul. —Robin
Aside from her contribution as an archaeologist, Robin can also help the Straw Hats by fighting the God’s Knights. The latter have begun their onslaught on Elbaf, and they will not stop until they get what they want. While besting them in combat may be too much for her, she could provide others with backup. If Robin accomplishes either of the two things, it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to call her the MVP of the Elbaf arc.
