Summary

  • Rakan, the King of Beasts, is an arrogant Monarch aiming to kill all vessels of the Rulers on Earth.
  • Rakan’s cowardly nature comes to light during his fight against Jinwoo, leaving Sillad to die alone.
  • Rakan begs for forgiveness from Jinwoo but dies as a coward, unable to survive Jinwoo’s strikes.

Solo Leveling Season 2 has introduced us to several powerful characters, including Rakan and Sillad. The two Monarchs appeared in the final episode of the second season, setting up an intense battle for Season 3.

While both the Monarchs are incredibly powerful, Rakan looks more intimidating if we go by appearance. He is a muscular man who will definitely present a challenge in front of Jinwoo. That being said, Rakan may look like a warrior who is easy to read, but he is much more than what meets the eye. The King of Beasts is possibly the weakest of all Monarchs, but his cowardly traits make him a nuisance for everyone around him.

Rakan Is The Monarch Of Fangs In Solo Leveling

He Is Also Known As The ‘King Of Beasts’

Rakan, the King of Beasts, is an arrogant Monarch who takes pleasure in exploiting the weak. He is on a mission to kill every vessel of the Rulers on Earth so that Antares can capture this world and use it against the Rulers. Rakan and Sillad traced Jinwoo’s mana and arrived on Jeju Island, only to find out that, for some reason, the Shadow Monarch has been helping humans. At the time, they weren’t sure if Ashborn had truly sided with the Monarchs, so they diverted their attention towards Christopher Reed.

During the Japan Crisis Arc, Rakan, with the help of two other Monarchs, butchered Christopher Reed and left his mutilated body for the whole world to see. The Monarchs were following orders, of course, but the way they killed Reed confirmed their sadistic tendencies. Soon after that, Sillad becomes sure that Ashborn has been acting against the Monarchs, and he suggests killing Jinwoo before he gets the full powers of the Shadow Monarch. While some Monarchs, like Yogumunt and Tarnak, refused to take part in this mission, Rakan stepped forward to help Sillad. It was not because Rakan was braver than other Monarchs, it was because he was an opportunist.

You think you can stand against me? I’ll tear you apart and feast on your bones – Rakan to Thomas Andre.

Rakan knew that Jinwoo was still weaker without the full powers of the Shadow Monarch. He believed he could kill Jinwoo in this state and, in turn, gain the respect of Antares, the Monarch of Destruction. Everything went as per plan, and Rakan very easily overwhelmed Thomas Andre and Lennart Niermann after arriving on Earth. But before he could kill the two National Level Hunters, Jinwoo arrived on the scene and landed a powerful attack on the King of Beasts. Since Jinwoo was the main target, Sillad and Querehsha also joined the fight. Well, this was the very beginning of Rakan’s ultimate demise at the hands of the Shadow Monarch.

Rakan’s Cowardice Comes Forth During His Fight Against Jinwoo

He Leaves Sillad To Die Alone At The Hands Of The Shadow Monarch

Jinwoo was incredibly powerful at this point, so he put up a great fight against the three Monarchs. In fact, he kills off Querehsha on his own, which is a solid achievement for a human. Still, the Monarchs were too powerful for Jinwoo to handle, and as expected, Rakan lands a killing blow on Jinwoo. Being the coward he is, Rakan stabs Jinwoo from behind, while the S-Rank Hunter is busy fighting Sillad.

Surprisingly, just when Rakan thought that he had killed Jinwoo, his Black Heart started beating. As a Monarch, Rakan realized what was truly happening — Jinwoo was becoming the Shadow Monarch and was being bestowed with these powers by Ashborn himself. There was still some time left, though, so Rakan decided to land an ultimate killing blow on Jinwoo while he was still unconscious. Fortunately, Sung II-Hwan arrives on the scene and buys enough time for Jinwoo to regain consciousness. Rakan, with the help of Sillad, gave it his all to kill Sung II-Hwan before Jinwoo could ‘Arise,’ but his fate actually caught up to him.

‘He Is Busy With Other Projects’: Why Solo Leveling Season 3 Will Take Longer To Release

The director of Solo Leveling is handling other projects, which will affect the anime’s release.

Rakan and Sillad realized that it’s too late, and Jinwoo has become the Shadow Monarch. At this point, the least they could do was fight fairly and accept their fate at the hands of Jinwoo. But deep inside, Rakan was a coward, so what did he do? He flees from the battlefield and leaves Sillad to die alone. Rakan thought that he could hide, but unexpectedly, Jinwoo targets the King of Beasts before killing Sillad.

Rakan didn’t have any honor and was ready to do anything to survive, so he bowed down in front of Jinwoo and begged for forgiveness. Jinwoo mocked him by saying that he would accept the apology if the King of Beasts survived five strikes from him. Rakan could only handle four and was ultimately killed by Jinwoo. Unlike other Monarchs, Rakan died as a coward and without any glory. That being said, his fight against Jinwoo is a sight to behold, and we can’t wait to see it come to life in Season 3 of Solo Leveling.
