Things Boruto Can Do That Naruto Can't

Summary

  • Boruto learned the Rasengan faster than Naruto, showcasing superior training and chakra control.
  • Boruto has exceptional affinity to multiple Nature Transformations, surpassing his father in versatility.
  • Boruto mastered Uchiha Style Kenjutsu and possesses the unique Jogan eye technique, giving him an edge.

While Boruto Uzumaki continues to forge his own path away from the shadow of the historic Naruto Uzumaki, the youngster undoubtedly finds himself in a drastically different shinobi world, especially with the newfound threat of the Otsutsuki and Kawaki’s own Omnipotence reversing their fates. As Boruto becomes a rogue ninja accused of killing his “adoptive” father, Kawaki becomes a “full” Uzumaki, as he’s hell-bent on eradicating the Otsutsuki threat—even if it means killing his new brother. However, Kawaki might have some difficulty doing so, as Boruto himself seems to have achieved new heights that his father couldn’t.

Learned The Rasengan Much Faster

A Natural Adept At Chakra Control

As both Naruto and Boruto have the Rasengan as a part of their family legacy, it makes sense for both of them to have the technique as a key part of their arsenal. Not only that, but both of them have also honed the Rasengan into various signature techniques, transforming the world’s pinnacle of chakra shape control into techniques to call their own.

However, Boruto outshines his father when it comes to training. When Boruto asked Sasuke to train him, Sasuke said Boruto should master the Rasengan first—a feat that Boruto managed to pull off in just a few days. Meanwhile, Naruto had to spend weeks mastering the Rasengan, and even then, he had to spend much of Part 1 with clones just to pull off the technique.

Affinity To Multiple Nature Transformations

Boruto Has Skills Beyond His Father’s Wind Release

When Kakashi Hatake trains Naruto in the advanced usage of Ninjutsu to amplify the Rasengan’s abilities, Naruto discovers he has affinity to Wind Release—a disposition he uses to transform the Rasengan into the highly-volatile Rasenshuriken. This became Naruto’s go-to advanced Rasengan variant and could tear through the molecules of his targets.

However, Boruto’s inclination doesn’t just stop at Wind Release (although that gave him access to Boruto Stream). Rather, he’s also shown incredible affinity towards Water Release (with techniques like Splash Bullet and Surging Sea), and especially Lightning Release, which gave him access to Purple Lightning and even paved the way for his special Invisible Rasengan.

7

Made Natural Rasengan Variants

After getting access to the Six Paths technique and the Nine-Tails Chakra, Naruto gains access to all Nature Releases, allowing him to modify his Rasengan further into various elemental types. This ties into the very reason Minato Namikaze created the Rasengan, wherein he wanted a Jinchuriki like Kushina Uzumaki to possess a technique mimicking a Tailed-Beast Bomb.

Interestingly enough, Boruto’s advanced chakra control and existing Nature Releases provided him with incredible aptitude in creating Rasengan variants without external influence. For instance, his Lightning Nature-infused Vanishing Rasengan allowed Boruto to catch enemies by surprise, while his Compression Rasengan let him create a more compact version of the technique to maximize its penetrative power. He even created a wind-infused Futon Rasengan with extra firepower that differs greatly from when Naruto created the Rasenshuriken.

6

Mastered Uchiha Style Kenjutsu

Learned The Art Of Swordfighting

Unlike Naruto, who always preferred fighting with Taijutsu (but still knew how to use weapons), Boruto displayed surprising aptitude for bladed weaponry. While his prodigious handling of shinobi weapons ranging from Shurikenjutsu, to Chakra Blades, to even using the mystical Hiramekarei, it’s with the sword that Boruto showed the most potential.

Though these Naruto characters felt a little unimportant at first, they stepped up to the plate and changed the story out of nowhere.

Boruto already displayed some preference for the sword before being taken under Sasuke’s wing, and has become even more proficient in the three years that they trained together. Now a master of Sasuke’s personal Uchiha Style Kenjutsu, Boruto can use iai-like techniques to make extremely quick slashes and infuse his blade with Lightning Release—a feat that allowed him to dispatch Ten-Tails-sourced Claw Grimes with ease.

5

Access To The Jogan

Aside from his potential access to the Byakugan by virtue of his Hyuga heritage, Boruto’s extraordinary defeat of Momoshiki Otsutsuki resulted in the activation of the Jogan—a completely new Dojutsu that Momoshiki himself said is mythical even among their kind.

While seemingly pure white and featureless, the Jogan has quite the extraordinary slate of abilities. For one, Boruto can use the eye to see chakra pathways and even predict the placement of interdimensional portals. He can even use the Dojutsu after his Jogan eye is blinded, making the Jogan even more unique than its Rinnegan-spawned siblings.

4

The Unpredictable Power Of The Kama

Reincarnation Is Part Of The Otsutsuki’s Arsenal

When Boruto defeats Momoshiki with the help of his father’s Rasengan, Momoshiki brands the youngster with the Kama—a seal containing the complete biological makeup of its host, such that it cultivates its recipient into a Vessel which it can eventually “overwrite” for their “reincarnation.” Unlike Naruto being the host Jinchuriki to a Tailed Beast, Boruto’s possession of the Kama will eventually make him obsolete. According to Isshiki Otsutsuki, Boruto’s rare compatibility with the Kama makes him a prime candidate for the highest-quality Chakra Fruit.

In the meantime, Boruto possesses not just Momoshiki’s experience, but also his inherent abilities. The Kama alone bestows significant boosts to physical prowess and Ninjutsu, as well as the ability to absorb and repel all manner of chakra attacks. In exchange, Boruto shares his body with Momoshiki’s soul, often bickering with him and, on rare occasions, losing control over the latter, resulting in Boruto’s body undergoing a somewhat minor transformation. In this transformed state, Momoshiki showcases what happens when one is in complete control of Otsutsuki powers, such as the creation of the Ultra-Big Rasengan.

3

Otsutsuki Physiology

Became A Full-Blown Otsutsuki

When Boruto suffers a lethal blow, Momoshiki is forced to use the Kama’s powers to “override” the youngster’s injuries—saving his life but disabling the Kama’s reincarnation properties. This effectively “locks” out Momoshiki from ever reviving in his original body, but also technically “converts” Boruto’s body into 100% Otsutsuki. Their thoughts also become completely available to each other, allowing Boruto to consciously access Momoshiki’s memories and experiences. However, this doesn’t forbid Momoshiki from taking control of Boruto—an act now made easier should Boruto start depending on the Kama.

Not all Naruto characters get to walk away from a fight with their limbs intact. Here are some examples who lost a body part in one way or another.

Regardless of this setback, having a complete Otsutsuki body gives Boruto an unprecedented advantage—specifically Shinjutsu, or Otsutsuki family techniques that were considered godlike and miraculous in nature, as they didn’t need any hand signs to be performed. Among these techniques are levitation and teleportation.

Recreated The Flying Thunder God Technique

Unique Otsutsuki Physiology Gave Access To Teleportation

It’s thanks to the Flying Thunder God Technique that Minato Namikaze became infamous across the Hidden Villages, as he had essentially found a way to travel instantaneously across any locations he has tagged. Such is the notoriety surrounding the technique that his son, Naruto, couldn’t use the technique, and it took a group of Minato’s students immense focus just to transfer a few individuals across large distances.

As such, it’s all the more impressive that Boruto has taken inspiration from his grandfather’s signature technique. Named after the same jutsu, Boruto’s version of the Flying Thunder God Technique involves the mastery of his newfound Otsutsuki translocation with the help of distinctly-shaped metallic objects. By focusing on objects he’s marked, Boruto can technically mimic the technique with his Otsutsuki powers.

1

Created A Planetary Rasengan

A One-Shot Killer With The Right Intensity

One of the biggest surprises during Boruto’s reappearance in Two Blue Vortex is his creation of the Rasengan: “Uzuhiko;” a special technique that seemingly uses “planetary chakra-energy” itself. Unlike nature energy, which is innately tied into Sage Mode, Boruto explicitly states that the Uzuhiko uses planetary chakra-energy, seemingly the energy tied to the physicality of the Earth itself.

At its base, the technique is a Rasengan variant that makes use of the planet’s orbit and rotation to create an attack with varying degrees of intensity. Using it with its bare power has the effect of an ordinary Rasengan on top of disorientation that only Boruto can deactivate. Escalating this power can inflict permanent vertigo or, at worst, infuse the target with so much planetary energy that they literally break apart. Boruto describes this as a direct antithesis to the Otsutsuki, as this uses the planet’s own life against them. This is also drastically in contrast with Naruto’s approach to Rasengan variants, which often involved making them larger in scale or merely infusing them with Nature Transformations—a chakra-heavy, and therefore Otsutsuki-influenced, quality.
