Schedule 1, the booming crime simulation title, has released a new update that brings an “alternate version” of the game as well as a slew of bug fixes and other improvements. Since rolling out in early access on March 24, 2025, Schedule 1 has quickly grown in popularity and attracted hundreds of thousands of players on Steam.

Developed by an independent studio named TVGS, Schedule 1 is the latest indie game sensation to take off on Steam, with a peak of over 414K concurrent players achieved within a week of its release. Despite still being in early access, the game has been received very positively by users across the board and currently has “Overwhelmingly Positive” user reviews based on feedback from more than 54K players. Fortunately, it doesn’t seem like the Australian studio is looking to rest on its laurels since six different small-sized updates have already been shipped to the game after launch. And, importantly, the latest one addresses a bunch of major technical issues reported by players.

The drug-dealing game Schedule 1 has received its sixth post-launch patch, together with the game’s alternate version. This alternate build of the first-person game is aimed at resolving the frequent crashes experienced by certain players. TVGS revealed that it changed the scripting backend from IL2CPP to Mono in the alternate version, which the developer has admitted “isn’t quite as performant” but is better for those facing errors and crashes in the original version. Apart from this, another new addition is the cleartrash command, which can help players resolve slowdowns caused by too many trash items.

When it comes to specific bug fixes, the recently released update resolved a range of player character-related issues, such as not being able to knock on a certain tall building’s door and incorrectly being able to pick up items when on one of the skateboards offered in Schedule 1. Moreover, technical hiccups related to the player’s speed multiplier and mixing colliders behind the Slop Shop have also been addressed in the new patch. The bug that enabled assigning employees to tasks at other properties and the unusual NPC pattern of not returning to their work after attacking the player have been remedied as well. In addition, the game now allows players to assign an additional station to Chemists, taking the maximum count from three to four.

Besides the various fixes, one salient part of the latest update is Schedule 1‘s alternate version, specifically created for a section of players. Over time, it would be interesting to see if this approach works as intended and successfully reduces the number of crashes endured by the game’s players on Steam.

Schedule 1 Version 0.3.3f15 Patch Notes

Alternate version

The alternate version is identical to the normal version, except it uses a different scripting backend (Mono instead of IL2CPP). This scripting backend isn’t quite as performant as the normal version, but it generally handles errors a bit better and is less prone to crashing. If you’re experiencing consistent crashes in the default version, I’d recommend trying it out. You can opt into the alternate version the same way as switching to the beta version – a video tutorial can be viewed here.

If people find that the alternate version results in fewer crashes, I’ll continue to maintain this version and keep it updated to match the default version. Even if the alternate version doesn’t fix the crashing, it’ll at least send me bug reports with more info compared to the default version.
