If there’s one thing to count on in Monster Hunter Wilds, it’s that the game will only continue to add more and more opportunities for challenging battle content in a variety of creative ways. Whether it’s taking on the fiercest beasts to progress the story or proving your mettle against more powerful variants of those monsters in other scenarios, there are many ways available for players to test their skills.
One such opportunity in Monster Hunter Wilds is the Arena Quest Counter, which introduces new types of battle quests for players with unique rewards. If you want to participate, then you’ll need to know how to unlock it and what all the quests entail.

How to Unlock Arena Quest Counter in Monster Hunter Wilds
The Arena Quest Counter is one of the features added with Monster Hunter Wilds‘ Title Update 1 patch that provides more opportunities for hunters looking for new and unique battle challenges. To unlock it, however, you’ll first need to make substantial progress with the game’s main story and, subsequently, your journey into High Rank.
This is because the Arena Quest Counter is part of the game’s Grand Hub, a vibrant communal area that introduces other features such as Barrel Bowling and The Canteen (where you can spend Meal Vouchers). To get access to the Grand Hub, you first need to reach HR 16, which is about midway through Chapter 4 of the main story after you’ve reached Suja – the Peaks of Accord and the Ruins of Wyveria. At that point, the soft cap on HR 15 will lift, allowing you to continue to higher ranks.
At that point, you can return to Suja and speak to Tetsuzan, who will inform you that the Allhearken has announced the opening of the Grand Hub. The location will immediately become available to teleport to on your World Map. Once there, head down the stairs at the main entrance, and the Arena Quest Counter will be straight ahead and to the left. Ricardo, behind the counter, is the go-to for all things related to the Grand Hub’s quest schedule.
All Main Quest Types at Arena Quest Counter in Monster Hunter Wilds
The Arena Quest Counter functions as its own hub of unique battle quests for players to attempt, as some of these quests cannot be accessed elsewhere in the game (e.g. – Alma or your Tent). These include Arena Quests, Challenge Quests, and Free Challenge Quests (the latter can be accessed from your Tent). In other words, you’ll need to travel to the Grand Hub to check for new additions to some of these quest types and to queue for them as well.

As with other quest types in the game, the higher your Hunter Rank (HR), the more quest options will become available to you, so make sure to check regularly as you continue ranking up.
Meal effects do not apply to certain quests, such as Arena Quests.
Arena Quests
Per the locale’s name, Arena Quests are the first and most prominent feature of the Arena Quest Counter. These particular quests involve monster battles that take place at the Wounded Hollow, an enclosed area with a gate in the center that can be temporarily raised. Furthermore, they allow a maximum of two players, with exceptions for support NPCs. So, if you normally play with a larger group, you’ll need to plan accordingly.
On top of that, only certain weapon types will be available to use, which you can check pre-emptively at the bottom of the quest’s summary. This is where the challenge truly comes into play, as it forces you to adapt to weapons that you may not normally use. If you don’t see one of your preferred weapons listed, you may want to consider going to the Training Area first to practice with one that you feel comfortable adjusting to.
One particular point of flexibility with Arena Quests is that, while the traditional 50-minute timer still applies, the failure conditions allow for up to nine potential faints between both players (unless you’re playing solo). This can alleviate some pressure as you learn the best advantage for the fight.
Rewards for these quests include:
- (Monster) Coin (Equipment Material) – A special coin reflective of the monster you’ve vanquished
- Pinnacle Coin (Equipment Material) – A special coin you can earn by achieving B Rank or above for your recorded time
- Lifepowder – Health recovery item that heals anyone nearby
- Max Potion – Fully recovers your health and temporarily extends your Health Gauge
- Jeweled Mullet Roe – Meal ingredient
- Pick-a-meal Voucher – Can be used at the Grand Hub Canteen for one order of your favorite regional meal

Free Challenge Quests
Free Challenge Quests are a variant of Challenge Quests that are more flexible with their conditions for completion, such as allowing up to four players instead of just two. Again, those slots can be filled by support NPCs, if need be, but you will need to toggle their availability via your Multiplayer settings.
Most importantly, there are also no limits on weapon selection, so feel free to use any type that you wish. Furthermore, rewards for these quests also include a special pendant that you’ll automatically receive depending on your battle completion time.
Challenge Quests
Challenge Quests are another unique battle quest type that again involves challenging various monsters at the Wounded Hollow arena. Similar to Arena Quests, you’ll be required to choose from a preset selection of weapon types, which can be viewed at the bottom of the quest menu. If you don’t see an option that you’re already familiar with, consider heading to the Training Area to try some other options.
These quests only allow up to two players to participate, with an exception for support NPCs. They also have a 50-minute time limit, and allow for up to nine potential faint instances.
Rewards for these quests include:
- Pinnacle Coin (Equipment Material) – A special coin you can earn by achieving B Rank or above for your recorded time
- Armor Sphere+ – Used for improving the stats of armor
- Demondrug – Temporarily boosts your attack power
- Max Potion – Fully recovers your health and temporarily extends your Health Gauge
- Eastern Honey – A Finishing Touch meal ingredient
- Pick-a-meal Voucher – Can be used at the Grand Hub Canteen for one order of your favorite regional meal
- Steel Melding Ticket – Used to get a discount on melding decorations
On top of the usual rewards provided with these quests in the Arena, Challenge Quests will also give you a special pendant based on your best recorded time. The time in question involves the duration of the fight itself, from the moment you start attacking. Different types of pendants are available, depending on your best recorded time.
