MH Wilds' Alma Customization Should Just Be the Tip of the Iceberg

Monster Hunter Wilds has certainly earned a lot of success in the short time since its release, and it looks like it isn’t stopping. The recent entry in Capcom’s popular franchise has reached a significant sales milestone, meaning more and more people have come to understand what makes it so popular and enjoyable. The newest update plans to push that success further, as it provides the game with new monsters to hunt and things to enjoy. One of the significant inclusions involves the ability to change Handler Alma’s appearance, and Capcom has the opportunity to take that feature and do more with it.

On the 25th of March 2025, a showcase for Monster Hunter Wilds took place, giving viewers a preview of what would be included in the game’s Title Update 1. Many big announcements took place, such as the return of Mizutsune and making the Zoh Shia a recurring encounter, but it also had a few minor ones. While not as significant as the upcoming monsters, the ability to alter Alma’s appearance has certainly caught the players’ attention, as it means they can give her a look that suits each person’s taste. If NPC customization is something Capcom wants to dip its toes into further, it may consider allowing the customization of other major NPCs besides the popular Handler, given what it could do for the game and its players.

How Being Able To Change the Appearance of Major NPCs Can Benefit Monster Hunter Wilds

Being able to change the appearance of some of the side characters in Monster Hunter Wilds would be an interesting feature to add, and one that many would likely look forward to. It could have just as much of an impact as other major inclusions, especially when considering certain factors:

  • Being able to change the appearance of other NPCs means more customization options, helping label Monster Hunter Wilds as the one entry that provides players with a lot of freedom in terms of what they can do
  • Altering their looks can ensure that Monster Hunter Wilds‘ major NPCs can stand out from the others who play no significant role in the game while also preventing them from being outright ignored by players
  • The change could help players better understand the story of Monster Hunter Wilds, as they will be inclined to watch the cutscenes instead of skipping them to marvel at the new looks they have provided for the NPCs

The ability to change the appearance of other NPCs may provide some benefits to the game, and there’s a chance that it could come in an eventual update. But the decision to do so will likely be dependent on how well-received the feature of being able to alter Alma’s looks will be, which is looking positive for now.

How Adding More NPC Customization Opens up Additional Opportunities for Monster Hunter Wilds

If the feature of being able to alter the looks of NPCs was added, it could eventually become as deep as the way Monster Hunter Wilds handles being able to change players’ appearance. What Capcom can do is allow customization for different parts of an outfit rather than just having a single cosmetic that modifies everything, similar to how one can layer certain parts of their hunter’s armor.

That way, the developer has more opportunities to provide more content for the game while giving people the ability to personalize each NPC to their liking and keeping them satisfied. Such a thing could even lead to an update that involves changing the looks of Support Hunters, further emphasizing how much freedom the game gives in terms of customization.

A good reason why Monster Hunter is one of Capcom’s best video game franchises is the way every mainline entry strives to evolve to give its players better experiences. The ability to change Alma’s appearance is one such way that the latest game, Monster Hunter Wilds, is trying for its players, and the concept of that feature can be taken further if other NPCs could also be altered. Hopefully, it will be implemented in an eventual update, as there are benefits to be gained from doing so rather than letting it stay as an idea.
