Michael Connelly Broke The News Of Bosch: Legacy’s Cancelation To Titus Welliver In A Brief Conversation
The Amazon illuminati didn’t have the decency to directly contact Titus Welliver to inform him that they were canceling Bosch: Legacy. Welliver’s portrayal of Harry Bosch essentially put Amazon on the streaming map, but they arguably ‘kicked him to the curb’ and didn’t want to face the music. Enter Michael Connelly to break the news of Bosch: Legacy‘s cancelation to the man who brought the iconic character from his books to life. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Titus Welliver said:
I got the call, actually, from Michael Connelly and one of our producers, Henrik Bastin, because we’d already been in conversations midway towards the end of the season talking about the next season and ideas, and we were getting very excited about the prospect of that. I got a call from them, and they said they’re not going forward. It was a pretty brief conversation. We all expressed our disappointment, but we’ve all been doing this long enough to know that could happen.
It’s no surprise that Titus Welliver and the rest of the creative team were disappointed with the cancelation of Bosch: Legacy. It’s an unwritten rule in Hollywood that all the really great shows are given the opportunity to end on their own terms. The original Bosch series was given the opportunity to do so, and Bosch: Legacy‘s showrunner, Tom Bernardo, has stated that Bosch: Legacy season 1 and Bosch: Legacy season 2 were given early renewals so they could make future plans. The very least Amazon could do would be to give the third season of Bosch: Legacy a chance to end properly. Even though Welliver stated he and the creative team knew Bosch: Legacy ‘could’ be canceled, it must have been a shock after such a long business relationship with Amazon, built on trust and respect.

Titus Welliver Doesn’t Claim To Understand Why Bosch: Legacy Was Canceled, But He Did Offer One Possible Reason
Titus Welliver has spent over a decade crafting the character of Harry Bosch, and he deserved to give the iconic character a fitting ending. It isn’t Welliver’s job to investigate why Amazon canceled Bosch: Legacy, but he has offered an insight into why it might have come about:
Sometimes it’s a myriad of reasons that I don’t necessarily understand. I do understand that, given the economy and things like that, there are a lot of studios that have been experiencing budgetary restrictions. But, as far as that, I’ve never had a conversation where I sat down and said, “Alright, tell me from point A to point B what it’s based on.
It’s the economy, stupid! It’s no secret that Amazon wanted to shoot the original Bosch series in Vancouver, but Michael Connelly’s contract clause insisted that every shot had to be filmed in Los Angeles. Every season of a show becomes more expensive to shoot, and Amazon arguably wanted to cut costs, and they knew they couldn’t shoot Bosch: Legacy outside of Los Angeles, so they just canceled it. However, Welliver is right when he says there are ‘a myriad of reasons’ for the cancelation of Bosch: Legacy.
Amazon’s shutdown of Freevee was another deciding factor: the streamer realized they were competing with themselves due to the introduction of advertisements on Prime Video. Next reason: Amazon is so transfixed by their new content strategy, so they axed Bosch: Legacy instead of giving it a fitting conclusion because it doesn’t fit in with their new model. The upcoming Ballard spin-off was very convenient timing for them, as it fits in with their push to appeal to the younger demographic, and they could pass it off as a planned handover. A special bonus reason for Bosch: Legacy‘s cancelation: Amazon is run by a bunch of talentless hacks who wouldn’t know quality ‘content’ if it smacked them in the face. They really thought the fans would just sit back and take it, but they are fighting against the official narrative and signing the Save Bosch: Legacy petition. Titus Welliver added:
We all have to continue with our lives. But if the fans have anything to say about it… and they are very clear about their feelings!
