The First Berserker: Khazan’s Skalpel is a powerful foe, but we’ll show you how to handle him with surgical precision.
One such boss is Princess Ilyna, who comes after defeating Skalpel. She is by no means an easy boss, but she may not be as difficult as the former. Here, we will guide you on how to defeat Princess Ilyna without much trouble.
How To Defeat Princess Ilyna
Princess Ilyna is the 13th boss you have to defeat during the Strange Melody quest. She seems to have three phases, even though there is no cutscene of her transitioning. We will break down all three phases so you can have a better understanding of each of them.
The recommended level to defeat Princess Ilyna is 111, so if you are under-leveled, make sure to farm before fighting her. Also, if you are taking too many tries, it is better to use the summon.
First Phase
Ilyna is a difficult boss, but she has some weaknesses. The major weakness is her poise, which you can take advantage of. Most of her attacks can be interrupted by your swings, and her stamina isn’t that high, either. However, if you aren’t careful, her quick flurry of attacks will take almost all of your health in an instant.
She is a beast at close range if you let her be. While she doesn’t have a lot of stamina, that doesn’t mean you can break her poise instantly. She recovers her stamina way too fast, so if you give her time to breathe, it will become difficult to stagger her.
That is when the summon comes in handy. He will keep on attacking her so she doesn’t recover her stamina fast, giving you enough time to heal or recover your footing. In the first phase, she won’t be that hard to dodge or parry. You just have to beware of her constant thrusting.
Second Phase
The real fight will start as soon as she enters the second phase. When Princess Ilyna is at around 60 percent health, she will fly back and unleash some purple rings throughout the fighting arena. The circular orbs won’t hit you instantly, as you will be able to see their trajectory.
Go to the place that is safe, but don’t drop your guard just yet, as she will do this same attack again. This makes it pretty hard to dodge, but getting hit by this attack can prove to be lethal, especially if your health is not full.
It will also inflict chaos on you, so make sure not to stand in the trail the attack leaves behind. Once this attack is finished, she will come back to the ground, and guess what? She has eliminated her weakness.
You can no longer stagger her, as she has a circular shield around her, which is breakable but takes a lot of time to break. In this second phase, you shouldn’t focus on parrying or guarding. Your main focus should be dodging.
This is because Princess Ilyna will now do a lot of magic attacks. This phase is pretty confusing because she won’t just be throwing the projectiles at you; she will summon magic below you, so if you are not paying attention, you can get hit pretty easily. Do not try to guard or parry it; just dodge it.
Also, now that the game is forcing you to be a lot more offensive so that you can break the shield, you should be careful. While the offense is necessary, you can’t blindly charge. As she is negating some of your damage and her poise is now extremely high, she will randomly launch an AoE magic attack. So when that happens, dodge backward instantly.
Third Phase
After fighting her for a while in the second phase, she will perform a move that will recover all of her stamina, and the shield will dispel. However, Princess Ilyna would now use her rapier more often. The third phase will start with her instantly covering the distance and performing a thrust. She will do this three times.
In this phase, the boss will be way more aggressive, and her attacks will do a lot more damage. She will even have a grab attack. Ilyna will also infuse her rapier with chaos magic; when she does, make sure to dodge the attacks.
While you can parry them, it will be difficult, and if you fail, the damage will be tremendous. That is why it is better to dodge such attacks.
Make sure not to dilly-dally in this phase too much, as she can transition back to her second phase, making the fight annoying.
Princess Ilyna Rewards
Once you have defeated her, you will get 185,261 Lacrima, 155,80 Gold, two Unending Tragedy Pieces, Unique Accessory, Princess’s Mirror, and Transmutation Mist.
