South of Midnight gives players a lore-rich adventure in a Southern Gothic world setting. The game is filled with mythical creatures from actual folklore, some of which are used in the game’s challenging boss fights. Each of the game’s boss fights is a unique experience, and the arenas in which they fight really set them apart from one another.

Players that wish to get every achievement for South of Midnight will need to replay some of these boss encounters without taking any damage. This is a feat best left for a cleanup run, as these bosses are not to be underestimated.

7 Best Games To Play If You Like South Of Midnight

These story-driven action-adventure games provide focused and memorable experiences that can be finished in just a few evenings.

Benjy

South of Midnight Huggin' Molly (2)

Benjy is nothing like the typical boss fight, and this part of the game is more of a platforming gauntlet. When players make it to the top of Benjy, they will see a boss’s health gauge appear and be told they will need to attack his wound. Benjy has no phases, nor will he fight back. This serves mostly to teach players to target wounds.

Two-Toed Tom

South of Midnight two-toe tom

This is the first real boss fight players will experience. Tom will telegraph his moves before striking with massive damage. Players will want to learn these telegraphs and know when to dodge and when to jump.

Ringing the bell will cause Tom to fall over and expose his wound. Plates will only be able to damage Tom while this wound is exposed. Players will need to maneuver to other parts of the arena whenever they deplete a segment of Tom’s health. They will need to repeat this until all of Tom’s health has been reduced to zero.

Watch for the bell icon under Tom’s health gauge. This will signal when to hit the bell to stun him.

Rougarou

South of Midnight Boss fight 3

While Two-Toe Tom’s boss fight has players fighting along a single strip with water on both sides, Rougarou is more of a classic arena. Players will be able to deal damage to Rougarou at any time, and his patterns will change as the fight progresses. Rougarou will leap into the air and drop back down in various parts of the arena.

Once players get a feel for the fight, they will be able to alternate between attacking and defending. Here are some tips to keep in mind when fighting Rougarou:

  • Keep moving whenever they become airborne.
  • Dodge away whenever they telegraph an attack.
  • Dodge into them while they finish an attack to deal damage.

Huggin’ Molly

South of Midnight Huggin' Molly

Huggin’ Molly is a massive enemy that hangs over a large pit. Plates will run from one side to the other while focusing on Molly in the middle. Players will learn about throwing early on in the game and will need to pick up and throw jars at Molly to stun her. When she is stunned, they will be able to deal damage. Just like Two-Toed Tom, Molly will relocate whenever one of her health segments is depleted.

However, when Molly relocates, there is a much larger focus on platforming challenges. This makes the Huggin’ Molly fight feel more like a mix between climbing Benjy and fighting Two-Toe Tom.

Kooshma

South of Midnight Huggin' Molly (3)

Kooshma takes the boss fight formula and flips it. While there is a boss gauge, the fight itself involves facing waves of his minions and dodging countless stage hazards. This proves to be one of the most challenging ordeals in the game, regardless of which difficulty players choose to play the game. Players will need to constantly be on the defensive while getting in damage where they can.
