Summary
- Quirks in My Hero Academia can range from simple to complex, requiring hard work to master.
- Users must control dangerous Quirks like Electrification to avoid harmful consequences.
- Erasure and Zero Gravity present challenges that users must overcome through practice and learning.
Just because someone is born with a Quirk doesn’t mean they will have a full grasp of how it works right from the get-go. Because of the wide range of Quirk abilities that exist within My Hero Academia, it means that, while some are very simple and easy to use, others can take a lot more practice to be of any real use. Anyone who has big dreams of becoming a hero will need to work extra hard to perfect their Quirk, considering how incredibly useful these abilities become when trying to protect a group of civilians from a dangerous villain or two.

My Hero Academia: 8 Strongest Quirks In Vigilantes
The Vigilantes spinoff of My Hero Academia introduces plenty of powerful new quirks into the story.
If someone is dealt a pretty bad hand, though, and is gifted a Quirk that puts themselves in danger, or which is capable of dealing an immense amount of damage to others accidentally, getting control of it as soon as possible is crucially important. Throughout the course of My Hero Academia‘s longrunning story, these have been the Quirks that have proven the most difficult for their users to fully master — if they have even managed to at all.

Engine
Even When Ida Feels Like He’s Getting Used To His Speed, He Ends Up Being A Little Too Fast
With the Engine Quirk, Ida is able to travel at incredible speeds thanks to the exhausts connected to his legs, though being able to reach the maximum speed limit is far from easy. Any time Ida makes an appearance on screen, he is either lecturing the class about the responsibilities of being a hero, or pushing his Quirk as far as it can go in an attempt to improve his control over its speed and distance.
Even when he acquires the Recipro Turbo boost, though, Ida then realizes that he’s traveling too fast to keep up with, highlighting just how tricky it is to reach that perfect middle point with this Quirk. By the time he arrives in the final war, Ida has essentially perfected his Quirk, making him a vital ally for the heroes, as he can travel from A to B in a matter of seconds.

Electrification
Electrification Can Zap The User’s Brain Cells For A While If They Use It Too Casually
The main drawback of Electrification is that, if the person goes a little overboard with the wattage while using it, they will end up having their brain fried, leaving them a sitting duck. As Kaminari has shown on numerous occasions, while this Quirk is immensely powerful and capable of wiping out entire groups of villains in a single zap, being able to determine how much it can be utilized before reaching the limit can’t be easy.
In fact, Kaminari would even need to rely on some Support Gear as a way to assist in his training, allowing him to feel more comfortable when using Electrification in a fight, though even then, it proves to be a risky ability to throw out due to the severe aftereffects that can impact the user.

Zero Gravity
Zero Gravity Is Tricky To Use Considering It Makes The User Feel Nauseous When It’s Active
Being able to float in the air at will can be an extremely useful ability for a hero to have, especially with how often civilians are always falling out of buildings due to the chaos being caused in the streets by villains, but it’s not exactly all that easy to use. In the story, Uraraka is the one who comes to possess this Quirk, though she quickly finds out that using it for too long causes her to feel a little nauseous, making it tricky to use effectively.
It’s really with the Provisional License Exam where Uraraka starts being able to take to the skies without getting a sick stomach, though her awakening would appear much later during the chaotic final war. Zero Gravity may seem simple and straightforward on the surface, but as Uraraka has proven, it can take a lot of hard work and dedication to use without it becoming too much to handle.

Erasure
Erasure Comes With A Ton Of Conditions Which A New User Would Need To Learn About
Considering Aizawa had already worked his way up to becoming a Pro-Hero by the time he appears in the main story, it makes sense he would have a good idea of how his Quirk works in practice. What becomes clear, though, is that Erasure, which can disable a person from using their Quirk anytime Aizawa looks at them, comes with a few important conditions and limitations that could only be discovered through fighting tons of dangerous opponents.
For example, Aizawa had to learn that villains will usually look at his eyes to figure out who he’s aiming at, and can also detect when he’s activating his Quirk due to the hairs on his body standing up. He also can’t use Erasure on characters whose Quirk is passive, in the sense that it can’t be toggled on or off, and is actually a part of the person’s biological makeup. Of course, it also takes a very long time for someone to learn how to keep their eyes open for minutes on end without blinking a single time, since doing so will shut down Erasure’s effects completely.

Dark Shadow
When The Sun Goes Down, Tokoyami’s Dark Shadow Takes On A Life Of Its Own
In the daytime, Tokoyami’s Dark Shadow takes the form of a small but still fairly strong being who the user can easily control without much issue. When the sun goes down, however, Dark Shadow becomes an entirely different beast, growing much larger and essentially taking on a mind of its own with Tokoyami struggling to keep a lid on it once it’s unleashed.
Over the course of the series, Tokoyami comes to learn how to keep a leash on Dark Shadow in the darkness after spending a few training sessions in a cave. He would also come to learn that his own negative emotions influence the strength and power of his Quirk companion, which he keeps in mind during the final battle where Dark Shadow plays an important role in fighting back against All For One.
3
Rewind
Getting Just A Little Too Carried Away With Rewind Can Have Disastrous Results
As the name implies, Rewind is a Quirk that can reverse a person back to a previous state in time once the user touches them, and while this can be useful, it’s extremely hard to control without things going horribly wrong. While Eri is admittedly only a young girl who still has plenty of time to learn the Quirk, she demonstrates why the Quirk can be so dangerous after she accidentally reversed her father out of existence.
Eri would actually practice using her Quirk on lizards to restore their tails as a way to accustom herself to the limitations of her ability. If the user were to suddenly panic though, this Quirk could cause a tremendous amount of damage, so for anyone to even have any hope of using it safely, they need to learn how it works, down to the finest details, to ensure it doesn’t get out of control. Even by the end of the series, Eri still doesn’t have a good grasp of her Quirk’s special ability, though this does make sense considering it probably takes years to fully master.

Permeation
Falling Through The Floor And Losing All Senses Makes Permeation An Incredibly Dangerous Quirk
As a member of U.A.’s Big Three, Mirio is an extremely strong hero, but while his physical strength makes him a real powerhouse, what really allows him to be so effective on the battlefield is his Permeation Quirk. When activated, Permeation makes Mirio’s body completely intangible, causing him to fall through the floor while also shutting off all his senses, due to a lack of air or light entering his system.
As Mirio explains, not long after he was first introduced to the series, this Quirk took an agonizing amount of training to fully master, and even then, it still remains pretty risky considering how long he needs to hold his breath in order to pull it off. Eventually, Mirio was able to figure out how to position his body so that he would be immediately ejected back up to the surface, making him a hero who can easily get the drop on his enemies from behind, though getting to this point was far from easy.

One For All
Midoriya’s Journey Has Shown Just How Brutally Difficult It Is To Master One For All’s Potential
- User: Midoriya (Previous Vestiges)
Before Midoriya was even trying to master several different Quirks at once that had been handed down from One For All’s previous users, he would first be tasked with trying to control the absurd underlying power of One For All itself. For the first few arcs, Midoriya ends up destroying his own body and breaking his bones whenever he tries to awaken the true power of his newly acquired Quirk, to the point where he would eventually be forced to use his legs to help handle some of the load.
It’s also made clear that only those with a high enough willpower will have what it takes to become a holder of One For All, alongside the physical strength needed to master it. Needless to say, though, anyone who does prove themselves capable of utilizing even a sliver of its unrivaled power will be in a pretty favorable position to eventually become a top hero.
