As an ex-employee who received a mysterious letter, you roam the abandoned factory searching for answers. Along the way, there are numerous hostile monsters and others that lie in the shadows, pulling the strings behind the curtains. So what are some of the scariest monsters in the Poppy Playtime series?
11
Doey The Doughman
More Sympathetic Than Scary
Doey The Doughman is one of the more sympathetic characters from Poppy Playtime Chapter 4. This is due to his friendly expressions and clay body. This, however, works against him in terms of scare factors even when he transforms into a much bigger monster.
Doey does his best to help you escape Yarnaby throughout Chapter 4. He only attacks you after suffering through the loss of his friends, which causes him to lose control. Even as he dies, he apologizes for what he has become.

Bunzo Bunny
Don’t Look Up
Bunzo Bunny is too cute to be scary. Luckily, this rabbit has some help from a hectic environment that forces you to focus on the patterns rather than Bunzo descending from the ceiling. Is it blue? Is it red? Pick the wrong button and Bunzo only comes down faster.
This is where the need to pay attention to the inputs mixes with the need to look up at Bunzo’s progress. This human need to mentally prep only works against you as you copy more complicated patterns.

The Mini Huggies / The Nightmare Critters
Little Troublemakers To Swat Away
Little guys that come out of holes in the walls or crawl on the ground always have some level of fear factor to them. The Mini Huggies and the Smiling Critters fall into this category of monsters, where they can sometimes startle you the first time, but scaring you becomes harder with each try.
Sometimes you have to give them a slap to prevent them from leaving their holes. Other times, you have a special add-on that lets you shoot fireballs at them. They are pretty easy to evade and in some situations, won’t even trigger a jumpscare.

Mommy Long Legs
Talkative Monsters Are Less Scary
Mommy Long Legs doesn’t have the scariest design. Even when she chases you, her friendly expression and voice can make the shock of being jump scared less impactful. In fact, most of the scary moments aren’t really because Mommy Longlegs is scary but because of the situation she puts you in.

Her one truly scary moment comes when she finally decides to chase you down herself. She gives you a few seconds to get a head start, but once she counts down to zero, the pressure of having to find an escape route can get to you.
7
Yarnaby
The Beast Who Follows
Yarnaby’s more animalistic characteristics will send you panicking as it hunts you through the factory. This toy is sent out by The Doctor, Harley Sawyer, and is tasked with chasing you. Get too close, and it reveals a sinister mouth where its otherwise friendly face would be.
Yarnaby is scary due to the chase sequences he is part of. However, he doesn’t stay long enough to scare you throughout the entirety of Chapter 4.
6
Harley Sawyer’s Robots
Harley Sawyer is another ex-employee of Playtime Co. who shoved his consciousness into a machine. From here on out, he is known as The Doctor. Harley has control over some of the bigger bodies, such as Yarnaby. However, his creepiest moment is when you are surrounded by his robots in the dark.

5
PJ Pug-A-Pillar
You Can Hear Him Coming Closer
PJ Pug-A–Pillar may not be the scariest monster in Poppy Playtime, but it is used well. When Mommy Long Legs tasks you with running a gauntlet to get some train codes, she sets this friendly pug on you.
The idea is that you can’t let Pug-A-Pillar catch you. The obstacles also make it difficult to move as PJ scuttles close behind you, which keeps you in a state of high alert. Its erratic movements also make it unpredictable as it sometimes takes an unexpected path towards you.
4
The Prototype
A Sinister Entiry With Few Appearances
The Prototype is both scary and not scary. If anything, it’s the idea of the Prototype that fills you with fear. This mechanical monster is the only other being that fills every other toy in the factory with genuine terror. When one of them falls, the Prototype is there to make their corpse part of its being.

Miss Delight
When A Design Is Just Plain Scary
Scary moments work best when they have the proper setup. There are times though when a design is so disturbing that it will get you even if you’re standing there expecting the worst. Miss Delight has one of those designs.
It’s hard to imagine Miss Delight being designed to teach children at any capacity. In fact, even before falling into disrepair, the design looks vastly different from the 2D image seen throughout chapter 3. Yet when Miss Delight catches you during her chase, it will always catch you off guard.
2
Catnap
The Scariest Intro And Scarier In-Person
Catnap has one of the scariest analog horror tapes in the entire series. He puts all the smiling critters to sleep through toxic gases that emit from his wide-open mouth. In-game, Catnap has multiple appearances, such as a nightmare version of itself.

All of this combines to make Catnap one of the scariest entities in the factory. While many other creatures could pass as children’s toys, Catnap feels completely out of place. It is no wonder the Catnap toy was recalled.
1
Huggy Wuggy
A Master Of Fear
Huggy Wuggy must have come from a scare school, because the creature integrates multiple ways of scaring you without even uttering a word. First, Huggy Wuggy vanishes from his post after you walk past the playtime room. This gives you the dread that he could pop up anywhere.
You get small hints that Huggy Wuggy is just around the corner with quick glimpses of his hands. This all culminates in a final scare where Huggy Wuggy walks through the door and begins his chase. Huggy does everything right to get some screams out of you.
