Monster Hunter Wilds Title Update 1 is finally here, and it brings a boatload of new content with it. There are more monsters, the long-awaited Gathering Hub, Arena Quests, and a whole lot more planned in the coming weeks. It’s a good time to dive back in, then, but not everything is working smoothly. Capcom finally confirms that you might run into issues if you have the enhanced texture pack installed, but only tells you to uninstall it.
If you’re playing Monster Hunter Wilds on Steam, you can download the High Resolution Texture pack for free. It requires a minimum 16 GB of VRAM on your PC, and should offer up better visuals across the entire experience. With how much Wilds struggled on PC at launch, this texture pack should be a solid way to improve your time in the action RPG – but for many it isn’t.
With just 40% of the 1,400 user reviews on Valve’s platform positive, players haven’t been too pleased with the texture pack since launch. Many claim the download severely hinders fps, causes stuttering, and can lead to crashes while it’s installed. Even if your hardware meets the texture pack’s requirements, that might not be enough.

Now, Capcom shares a workaround, but the developer is merely suggesting you uninstall the texture pack altogether. “We have confirmed that players may encounter issues with the Steam version of Monster Hunter Wilds if the High Resolution Texture Pack is installed with insufficient VRAM, even if other texture options are selected in-game,” Capcom writes.
“If the game becomes unstable after installing the High Resolution Texture Pack, please disable it.”
To do this, just head to Wilds’ properties tab on Steam, then DLC, and uncheck the box for the texture pack in the install section. The problem is, the texture pack isn’t working for many players. Some have 16 GB VRAM or more, and are still reporting that Capcom’s visual enhancements actively make Wilds run worse. So, if you haven’t already, I’d recommend uninstalling the DLC and waiting to see if Capcom delivers some more in-depth fixes down the line.
