After being teased earlier this week at CinemaCon, Disney has released the first trailer for the upcoming Tron: Ares. It looks like fans are in for some real bio-digital jazz, man.
2025 hasn’t been an extremely kind year to the House of Mouse thus far, but the entertainment conglomerate is dead set on balancing the scales in terms of their box office returns. Captain America: Brave New World and Snow White didn’t exactly pan out as Bob Iger and company would’ve hoped, but Disney has plenty coming down the pike that should help buck that particular growing trend. Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures has at least one film releasing every month for the rest of the year, including heavy hitters like The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Zootopia 2, and Avatar: Fire and Ash. In particular, October 10th brings the third film in a beloved franchise for which die-hard fans have been waiting an agonizing fifteen years.

Tron 3 Director Vents Frustration With Strike Talks Following Movie’s Delay
Tron: Ares has been indefinitely delayed at Disney, causing director Joachim Rønning to express frustration over Hollywood’s double strike.
Disney has finally released the first teaser trailer for Tron: Ares after quite a long wait. Principal photography for the third Tron film wrapped nearly a year ago, and though it goes without saying that there will be a whole bunch of post-production effects work for numerous teams to slog through, fans had been hoping for a scant teaser for a while now. Well, it’s out, and anticipation for the follow-up to 2010’s Tron: Legacy has never been higher.
The First Tron: Ares Trailer Teases The Return Of Jeff Bridges As Kevin Flynn
There isn’t too much about the Tron: Ares trailer that is super concrete. To be fair, all this teaser had to do was pass a vibes check, and it does so with flying colors. The prospect of sophisticated programs from Kevin Flynn’s digital sphere escaping the confines of their artificial home to break into our world is plenty enticing all by itself. Seeing a lightcycle promptly slice a cop car in half is enough to make Tron acolytes salivate. The Imagineering crews who work at Disney Experiences should look into adding a scene like that to the TRON Lightcycle / Run at Magic Kingdom.
Other than that, viewers will get momentary glimpses of numerous members of the primary cast, like Jared Leto, Evan Peters, Greta Lee, and Jodie Turner-Smith. Of course, the greatest tease of all comes in the form of Jeff Bridges’ iconic voice. You don’t need to see the man to know it’s him. His line of “Ready? Cause there’s no going back” is enough to get the most skeptical Tron fans excited for what’s coming from the film.
Film nerds across the internet are, of course, most excited about Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross of Nine Inch Nails doing the soundtrack for Tron: Ares. It will be hard to follow up what Daft Punk managed to put together for Tron: Legacy‘s original soundtrack, but if anyone can do it, it is Reznor and Ross. The Academy Award-winning duo has worked on films as varied as The Social Network, Soul, and Challengers. Their score for The Social Network, in particular, still manages to be awe-inspiring all these years later.
Norwegian director Joachim Rønning—best known for Marco Polo, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, and Young Woman and the Sea—is at the helm for Tron‘s third outing. Here’s hoping he and screenwriters Jesse Wigutow and Jack Thorne do the franchise justice. It’d be nice to get another installment that doesn’t take fifteen years or longer to come to fruition.
Tron: Ares is scheduled to be released in theaters on October 10, 2025.
