The Owlbear Egg

A Substitute Quest Item

Near the Blighted Village in Act One, you may come across a group of Absolute cultists who were attacked by an owlbear. They’ll mention that there’s an owlbear cave nearby, and you’ll have the option to go check it out.

Inside the cave is an owlbear, her cub, and an egg. If you decide to take the egg, keep it with you until you get to the Risen Road. A woman named Lady Esther is along the path, and you can sell the egg to her instead of helping her steal a githyanki egg from a nearby crèche.

The Githyanki Egg

An Interesting Development For Lae’zel

When you reach the crèche hidden under Rosymorn Monastery, you will find a thriving githyanki community inside with the different rooms serving a unique purpose. One of the rooms is a nursery where a githyanki researcher is tasked with nurturing githyanki eggs.

You’ll find one egg left behind which you can ask to keep. It’s a weighty item, but keep it with you. You can give this egg to Lady Esther if you’d like, but if you keep it until the end of your journey, an interesting development involving it will come up in the epilogue.

Haste Spore Grenades

A Secret Weapon For The Iron Throne

This throwable item can be crafted using sublimate of haste spores combined with any essence. When thrown on the ground, the grenade bursts and releases a cloud of haste spores. Any who go through it will gain a bonus to armour class, doubled movement speed, and an additional action.

Haste spores last for three turns, but the condition will only last you one turn.

This is useful for any fight, but it will be especially helpful for the quest in the Iron Throne. Having a haste spore by the entrance will allow your party to speedily rescue all the captives and another grenade can be thrown deeper in the halls to ensure your escape.

Sussur Blooms

A Wizard’s Nightmare

Sussur Blooms can be found in the underdark, and these blue flowers create an anti-magic field in a small radius around them. They can be used to animated armour and arcane turrets, such as the ones found in the Arcane Tower.

These blooms wither when they leave the underdark, but you can sneak them out by selling them to Derryth or Baelen Bonecloak in the myconid colony. These explosive barrels can be found in plenty of areas, such as the goblins’ camp and Felogyr’s Fireworks in Baldur’s Gate. These items are especially useful if you know there is an upcoming fight and would like to set up the battlefield in your favor.

When blown up, smokepowder barrels deal force damage in a six meter radius, making it a useful item when there are things vulnerable to force damage. The boss fight in the House of Hope has a mechanic where force damage turns the tides in your favor. Save a couple of barrels for that encounter.

An Antidote

Help A Hand In Need

Antidotes can be easily purchased from different merchants or found lying on shelves and surfaces in various dungeons. They’re useful as many enemies and traps can poison your party and inflict continuous damage. While its use is obvious in battle, there is an npc who will need it when you get to the underdark.

In the myconid colony, there is a duergar named Thulla that you can find wounded on the ground. You can give her an antidote from your inventory to save her life.

Devilfoil Masks

More Goodies For Our Good Friend Dammon

Devilfoil masks are wearable pieces of gear that can be found lying in several spots in Grymforge and several are equipped by enemies in the Gauntlet of Shar. This mask increases the wearer’s strength by one point, but decreases their intelligence, wisdom, and charisma by one point for every mask nearby.

Instead of using or selling them, you can give them to Dammon who can be found in Last Light Inn. Using the masks, he can make Orthon Explosives that can deal 3d6 fire damage.

The Spider’s Lyre

Minthara and Nere are two characters that have the Spider’s Lyre in their inventory. To have access to Minthara’s lyre, you can have her join your party or you can loot it from her body. You can loot Nere’s body for the lyre, but he can also give it to you if you convince him to help you.

You can loot Minthara’s body without killing her by performing a non-lethal attack against her as a final blow.

This lyre provides one option you can use to get through the shadow-cursed lands safely. It will summon a guide that will lead you to Moonrise Towers.
