It followed the story of the titular heroine who had to rise to her destiny as the Slayer to keep the land safe from all sorts of monsters, including vampires, of course.

Anya Jenkins

This Lovable Demon Would Be A More Than Welcome Addition

Anya was an unforeseen ally, as the slayers usually find themselves killing demons, not befriending them. Still, Anya proved herself a valuable member of the Scooby gang, providing plenty of laughs with her deadpan and overly blunt way of telling it how it is. Eventually, she and Xander grew close, resulting in a marriage that was called off due to Xander’s fears he would turn out like his father.

Both returned to help Buffy finish the fight in Season 7, so who isn’t to say Anya could make her return in the new Buffy show, especially since the classic slayer herself is set to have her own recurring role. Her popularity would make her an obvious choice, even if it’s only for a single episode in which Nova needs some demonic help.

Angel

The Vampire Cursed With A Soul

• Status: Alive

In the Buffy universe, vampires lose their souls when they are turned into one of the fanged undead, leaving them with little remorse, guilt, or care for any other forms of life. Humans are nothing but big juicy bags of blood to them, unless the vampire in question turns out to be Angel. He is one of the more unique vampires, as he was cursed to have a soul, which he loses if he ever experiences a moment of true happiness.

As such, he is a rather tortured and broody character who tries to keep on the path of righteousness, ‘helping the helpless’ in LA and drinking pig’s blood rather than humans. A few times in both Buffy and Angel, he slips into his evil alter ego Angelus. Either side of Angel could potentially make an appearance in the new series, especially since Buffy is said to have her own role in the story.

Cordelia Chase

Although she was not a long-term part of the Scooby gang, Cordelia’s popularity as a character was indisputable. She started off giving others the impression she was just another vapid high school mean girl, followed by an entourage of all the other popular airheads in Sunnydale. But she soon revealed a little bit more about herself to Buffy in order to prove that she was more than just what people glimpsed on the surface.

She wasn’t given much further chance to bond, however, as Cordelia departed Buffy the Vampire Slayer to join the Angel gang in the Season 3 finale. Here, her character received more growth and maturity, with her mean-streak mellowing out as she became a more integral part of Angel Investigations and their goal to help the people of LA. Though she did not survive the end of Angel, she could still appear briefly as a higher power or a spirit to help Nova on her mission.

Willow Rosenberg

Willow was one of Buffy’s first friends in Sunnydale, and as it turns out, she isn’t just an ordinary high school nerd, eventually tapping into some magical abilities that aid the Scooby gang multiple times throughout the series. She and Tara also proved to be a landmark relationship on US television, as LGBT relationships were rare on prime time TV back during the time of its airing.

Tara’s death awakened a darker side of Willow with which she used her powers to wreak her bloody revenge, yet this didn’t deter fans from loving her any less. After all, Tara didn’t deserve her untimely death, and who wouldn’t want to avenge a loved one? Whether Willow returns or not has yet to be confirmed, but this lovable and all-powerful witch could be an invaluable resource to the new slayer and a love letter to old fans.

Rupert Giles

Appearing first as just the reserved school librarian, Giles’s character is more than what meets the eye, as he is one of the Watchers, training new slayers and offering guidance until they are ready to strike out on their own. However, Giles stayed alongside Buffy for longer than needed, becoming something of a father figure in her life.

Faith Lehane

Usually there is only one slayer born in every generation, meaning that there should only be one slayer active at a time; a new one would awaken to their power only after the previous slayer has died. Enter slayers like Kendra and Faith, who awakened due to past slayers’ deaths. But as Buffy was revived after her death, this resulted in there being multiple slayers, even more joining the fight after Willow cast a spell to awaken all potentials.

Unlike Buffy, Faith was more ruthless as a slayer and acted as something of a rival before they joined forces. Bold, brash, sassy, and fierce, fans immediately clicked with Faith, with some even going so far as to call her their favorite character. She survived the finale of Buffy, which leaves the door open for her to still be an active slayer kicking demonic butt wherever she goes. As such, there is still every chance she could return to the fold.

Spike

His And Buffy’s Story Continued After The Show Ended

Spike first exploded onto the screen in Season 2, along with his vampire lover Drusilla. The two were intent on killing the slayer, but ultimately, this didn’t come to pass. Buffy thwarted their attempts, and eventually, Spike realized he didn’t want to kill her, as he had fallen in love. This resulted in him actually joining Buffy and co. in their fight against evil, becoming an integral part of the gang and one of the most loved characters among Buffy fans.

Though there were some character-ruining moments in later seasons, as Joss Whedon wanted to remind fans they weren’t supposed to route for the vampires, this didn’t stop fans wanting more of the Billy Idol look-alike, and they received as much in the comic book series that continued the story. His popularity would make him an obvious choice for a returning character, but this could prove difficult; although vampires don’t age, the actors portraying them do.
