What Is Yamato Doing After Wano?
Yamato Is Currently Exploring The Land Of Wano Like Oden
Throughout the Wano Arc of One Piece, Yamato, very obviously, felt like a parallel to Oden’s character. Besides trying to emulate Oden in every possible way, Yamato felt as if he could have been the “Oden” of Luffy’s crew, paralleling the dynamic that Roger had with the legendary samurai of Wano before him. However, with Luffy not being an exact parallel to Roger, instead of following the Straw Hats as he initially wanted to, Yamato decides to stay in Wano to help protect the country. Still, Yamato possesses a desire to assist and join the Straw Hats at some point in the future.
Give back the sword and girls! Raimei Hakke! – Yamato
Currently, after the events of Wano, in the newest Cover Story of Elbaf, Yamato heads on a journey to explore the country, similar to Oden, and enshrine Yasui’s sword. Along the way, Yamato runs into many important figures from the arc, showing that most of them are doing fine without the tyrannical rule of Orochi and Kaido. However, problems in Yamato’s journey start to occur when Who’s-Who of the Beast Pirates attempts to steal the sword. Quickly after, however, Yamato battles and defeats the pirate, claiming the blade and freeing the prisoners that the Beast Pirate had captured.
Yamato May Have A New Crew Forming
Ulti And Page One May Join Yamato’s Side
- Yamato Rescued Some Characters That Could Form A Crew
- This Crew Could Help Luffy In The Final War
Interestingly enough, two of those prisoners were other former Tobiroppo of the Beast Pirates, Ulti and Page One. Additionally, another prisoner there was Minatomo, a carpenter of Wano that employed Franky. Based on the people that Yamato saved, many fans believe that the warrior may have the makings of a pirate crew. With Ulti and Page One as powerful combatants and Minatomo creating a ship using his expansive guild of carpenters, it doesn’t seem unreasonable that with a few more members, Yamato could have the beginnings of a basic pirate crew.

Here’s what One Piece fans can expect from the Egghead arc.
From here, many fans believe that Yamato may come to the aid of Luffy in the Final War of One Piece. By assisting in the final battle, since each of the Straw Hat Grand Fleet ships was supposed to meet again for this massive event, in a way, this would make Yamato an unofficial part of Luffy’s Grand Fleet. Although Luffy would never ask directly, from here, it seems entirely possible that Yamato would offer his services to Luffy, implying that the Yamato crew will join the fleet and assist Luffy when needed.
Yamato Has Some More Steps Before Helping Luffy
Helping Wano Is A Number 1 Priority
Still, as it currently stands, Yamato may need more members to create a functioning pirate crew before being able to set sail and help Luffy and the Straw Hat Grand Fleet. Additionally, Yamato is currently helping Wano get back on its feet, acting as the country’s guardian. Leaving so soon after such a catastrophic event would feel like Yamato is abandoning the job that he had just received. However, once some time has passed and Yamato finishes his adventure through the country, seeing how peaceful everything is now, it may be possible that he will briefly leave to help Luffy.

In the end, although it may seem like a bit of a stretch, there’s always the possibility that Yamato will join the Straw Hat Grand Fleet. In many ways, Yamato’s current Cover Story feels as if he is starting a crew and slowly gathering allies that could help him set sail. Although Yamato currently wants to stay in Wano, based on his desire to assist Luffy, it seems possible that he will one day fight by Luffy’s side in battle once again by the end of One Piece.
