You’ve probably seen the Nintendo Switch 2‘s price by now, even if it got announced in a kind of weird way after yesterday’s Direct had concluded, rather than, you know, during it.

Now, the console maker’s first post-Switch 2 Direct Treehouse livestream is facing a tough crowd, as its chat is spammed by folks demanding Ninty “drop the price”. We assume they’re likely referring to both the console itself, which will set you back $449.99/£395.99/€469.99 if you buy the standard version, and Mario Kart World, which is being standalone priced at $79.99/ £74.99. The Welcome Tour hardware demo not being free could also be a culprit.

Cue the reaction to today’s Treehouse stream, which has been showing the likes of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Donkey Kong Bananza to a crowd of chatters who, as you can see in the screenshot below, seem far more interested in calling on Ninty to “drop the price”, “drop that price”, or “drop the prices” in all caps.

We’ve been watching it go for a good few minutes now, and despite the odd interjection from either a troll calling the prices to be raised instead and people actually trying to talk about what’s being shown on the stream, it’s been pretty much a solid wall of price moaning since the Treehouse kicked off.

In terms of sheer sustained effort, it’s even surpassing the barrage of SKONGs after Hollow Knight: Silksong popped up in yesterday’s Direct, and that’s really saying something. Will people actually do the whole ‘vote with your wallet’ thing if Nitendo doesn’t see protests like this and, er, Switch its pricing for the new stuff up? We’ll have to see – it is a lot harder to endure actual new Ninty game FOMO than it is to spam a chat.

Historical precedent suggests Nintendo isn’t the kind of company to deviate from what it wants its own course to be, but hey, there’s always a chance, given people are appealing to it (Miyamoto hand gesture) DIRECTLY here.
