The Switch 2 is shaking up the industry this year, as Nintendo recently revealed a lot of exciting features and games set to mark the beginning of the console’s life cycle. An official release date, a launch title, specs, and a series of exciting third-party games have marked the Switch 2 as one of the year’s most anticipated releases.

Mario Kart World is set to be a launch title that will also be included in a Switch 2 bundle option, while major third-party hits like Cyberpunk 2077 will apparently be able to run on the fresh console. This promises an exciting upgrade for Nintendo players, especially longtime fans. In a fun, nostalgic surprise, Nintendo revealed that GameCube games would finally be coming to Nintendo Switch Online, too. It’s definitely a thrilling throwback, but if Nintendo wanted to lean into retro nostalgia even harder, eventually releasing ports of Ocarina of Time 3D and Majora’s Mask 3D would be icing on the cake.

These two remakes have brought some of the most beloved chapters of The Legend of Zelda franchise to a fresh audience. Not only that, but longtime fans have been able to revisit this pair of entries and see them in a brand-new light. Of course, Ocarina of Time 3D has been better received than Majora’s Mask 3D, with the former being regarded by some as one of the best game remakes of all time. Majora’s Mask 3D is still a solid experience, though, despite some of its divisive changes.

Ultimately, the improved graphics and better frame rate make both Ocarina of Time 3D and Majora’s Mask 3D titles that would be worthy of a Switch 2 port. These are iconic entries in the franchise, as they marked the beginning of The Legend of Zelda‘s 3D future. It was a major turning point for the series, and getting to experience the remakes on the Switch 2 would not only be a great way for longtime fans to get a refresher, but an entirely new generation can discover them, as well.

Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom are set to get enhanced versions for the Switch 2. Also, thanks to Nintendo adding GameCube games to Nintendo Switch Online, Wind Waker will also be coming to the console.

The legacy of The Legend of Zelda is impressive, and two of its best stories will hopefully get to live on via the Switch 2.

Of course, only time will tell if Ocarina of Time 3D and Majora’s Mask 3D end up getting a Switch 2 port. Ultimately, Nintendo may not see it as hugely beneficial, but it would also feel like a big missed opportunity.

Mario Kart World is even getting its own Nintendo Direct event on April 17, which could bring even more thrilling reveals. Right now, a port of these two Legend of Zelda remakes may just be wishful thinking, but the Switch 2 is at least a glimmer of hope.
