The April 2 Nintendo Direct, which focused on the new Switch 2 console, was packed with reveals, so it’s not surprising that a few details got left out. While the Switch 2 versions of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild were shown, one detail about these upgraded titles did not appear in the Direct and was only revealed later in a game-specific trailer. Specifically, the Switch 2 editions will give players access to never-before-heard Voice Memories, which will reveal more information about Princess Zelda’s fight against the Calamity in Breath of the Wild, King Rauru’s life in Tears of the Kingdom, and more.

Voice Memories Are Tied To The New Zelda Notes Feature
The Nintendo Switch 2 versions of both The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will include access to the new Zelda Notes feature. Zelda Notes is accessed via the official Nintendo Switch app, which must be downloaded onto a smartphone or other device. It includes a number of key features, including navigation tips for finding Shrines, Koroks, and other hidden items, daily bonuses that can be claimed, and the ability to share items and Tears of the Kingdom Autobuilds with other players.
Included in the Zelda Notes feature are Voice Memories. Like the Memories already present in both games, those that are available through Zelda Notes allow Link – and, by extension, the player – to learn more about what other characters were up to before the events of both games. However, unlike Memories, Voice Memories are audio-only, and essentially function as an audio diary narrated by the character in question. They can be located using the navigation system in the Zelda Notes feature, which provides vocal directions and indicates when a destination is nearby.
These Memories Will Greatly Expand The Lore Of The Two Games
The Breath of the Wild Voice Memories will all be from the perspective of Princess Zelda. They will expand on her and Link’s life before the Calamity and touch on events that Link lost his memory of during his one-hundred-year sleep. Voice Memories featured in the trailer show Zelda reminiscing about her love of the Silent Princess flower and a time when Link displayed leadership at the Dueling Peaks.
Tears of the Kingdom’s Voice Memories, on the other hand, will not only include Zelda’s stories, but also those of King Rauru, the Zonai leader of Hyrule many years ago, and Master Kohga, the leader of the Yiga Clan. Master Kohga was thought dead at the end of Breath of the Wild, but, in Tears of the Kingdom, he was revealed to have survived via falling into the Depths and is encountered several times as players explore the world beneath Hyrule. His Voice Memories may finally reveal the secrets of exactly how he survived and the details of his time in the Depths between the two games.
While the Zelda Notes service will add a number of new features to both games, the Voice Memories are the one most targeted at encouraging people who have already played either game to reload their saves (or start a new file). The Voice Memories are likely to greatly expand the lore of the two games by revealing information about Hyrule’s past, Zelda’s pre-Calamity life, and Master Kohga’s time in the Depths, all things that were not covered in great detail in either Breath of the Wild or Tears of the Kingdom. Players eager to expand their Legend of Zelda knowledge should definitely pick up the Switch 2 versions of the games, which will be available on June 5, and dive back in to collect all the Voice Memories.
