Ghilan’nain wields Blight as her most powerful weapon, using it to corrupt everything—including dragons. While you will battle dragons throughout the game, one remains hidden and does not appear in the main story. If you want to find it, the Heart of Corruption quest awaits you.

How To Unlock The Heart Of Corruption Quest

‘The Heart of Corruption’ is one of the quests you can obtain fairly early, but since its difficulty increases over time, you’ll likely complete it towards the end of the game. You can pick up this quest when you start ‘Into the Crossroads’ quest or afterward.

To get the quest, fast travel to the Crossroads and head down the first set of stairs. Before descending the second set, turn right—you’ll find the Thrice-Sealed Gate to the right of a wall carving featuring three owl-like engravings. As you approach the gate, which is blocked by tree branches, you’ll automatically receive ‘The Heart of Corruption’ quest.

To open this gate, you’ll need a total of three Revenant Essences, which can be obtained by unlocking the following doors in the Crossroads:

How to Unlock The Gate Of Deep Sorrows

The Gate of Deep Sorrows is located in the Crossroads, near the eluvians leading to Treviso, Dock Town, and Necropolis. To reach it, take the rightmost boat at Beacon Island to arrive at Converged City. Once you pass through the large gate, you’ll find it on the left. Approaching it will grant you the ‘Gate of Deep Sorrows’ quest.

For this quest, you’ll have to battle a Level 25 boss, so make sure you’re well-prepared.

The boss you need to defeat to open the ‘Gate of Deep Sorrows’ is located in Treviso. There, you’ll find a Blight Cyst in Crow’s Road Rooftops. Destroying it will summon the champion. After defeating Desmal, Bloodbound to Elgar’nan, take the Champion Essence obtained from him and use it at the Gate of Deep Sorrows.

Upon entering, defeat the initial enemies. As you progress, you’ll notice that defeated enemies start respawning. This happens due to a necromancer hidden behind a metal gate. Take the left path, grab the wisp, and place it at the necromancer’s door. Kill the necromancer and continue forward.

Rooks is fighting against Betrayal of Fellasan in Dragon Age: Veilguard.

Further ahead, you’ll face a formidable Level 32 enemy: Betrayal of Fellasan. If you’re not ready, consider leveling up before taking it on. This enemy is highly dangerous. During one attack, a red energy field will form above it, and a barrier will appear. If you don’t break its guard immediately, the attack’s area of effect will keep expanding, making it more difficult to avoid.

Another attack involves waves of ice being emitted from its shield—be sure to dodge these, as they can be extremely frustrating. After defeating it, you’ll obtain a Revenant Essence. Place it at the Thrice-Sealed Gate. Additionally, be sure to loot the chest in the room to acquire The Burden, a unique item.

How To Unlock The Gate Of Parched Hope

To reach the Gate of Parched Hope, take the middle boat at Beacon Island. Once you arrive at Elvhenan’s Haven, walk straight ahead, and you’ll see the gate. Approaching it will trigger the associated quest.

To unlock this gate, you must defeat a champion in Hossberg Wetlands, located southeast of the eluvian in the area. If you can’t access this spot, make sure you’ve completed the ‘Something Wrong’ quest. In Old Crossroads, you’ll find another Blight Cyst. Destroying it will summon a mini-boss, Disciple-in-Ichor, a level 30 enemy.

Defeating it grants another Champion’s Essence, which you must place at the Gate of Parched Hope in Elvhenan’s Haven. Upon unlocking the seal, you’ll immediately enter a boss fight against Slaughters of the Pillars, a level 37 enemy. Similar to Betrayal of Fellasan, this boss can generate a red barrier to heal itself—prevent this by attacking quickly.

It also spawns spikes on the battlefield and has impressive range with its spear, so be mindful of spacing. After defeating it, collect the Revenant Essence and place it at the Thrice-Sealed Gate. Additionally, ascend the stairs on the left side of the area to find a chest containing the unique item Andraste’s Will.

How to Unlock The Gate Of Pale Reflections

To unlock this gate, take the leftmost boat at Beacon Island. The Caretaker will take you to Heights of Athim. Once you arrive, head right through a ruined cabin, climb the wooden stairs, and reach an open area. Climb to the top of the structure, then use the zipline to cross the cliff. Before crossing, destroy the Blight Cyst on the opposite wall.

After crossing, destroy another Cyst, then stand near the dwarf statue to destroy the final Cyst above you. This will remove the obstruction blocking the gate, revealing the Gate of Pale Reflections.

Follow the quest marker to Hossberg Wetlands, then head to Solitude’s Edge. Here, you’ll find another Blight Cyst—destroy it to spawn Amarell the Unwoven, a Level 35 boss. This boss spreads a dark fog that limits your visibility and prevents party members from casting spells. To avoid a prolonged battle, take it down quickly.

After defeating it, collect the Champion Essence and loot the nearby chest for a unique item. Place the Champion Essence at the Gate of Pale Reflections to enter. Inside, an Undead Horde awaits, but they’re easy to defeat. The real challenge is Fall of the Protector, a Level 42 boss. Unlike previous foes, this one is a mage and lacks strong defenses, so take it down swiftly.

It can summon Dark Fog, impairing visibility and blocking your companions’ abilities. It also has a red barrier spell that allows it to heal—break it quickly to stop the regeneration. Once defeated, claim the final Revenant Essence and place it in the Thrice-Sealed Gate. Don’t forget to check the left-side chest for another unique item.

How To Defeat The Revenat Dragon

After placing all three Revenant Essences, get ready for an epic boss fight. The level 50 Revenant Dragon will be a tough challenge, so if your level and gear aren’t sufficient, keep grinding and upgrading your equipment.

Choose your companions wisely—bringing a hardened companion will be beneficial, and having someone with a sundered and detonating combo can give you an advantage.

Rook prepares to strike Revenant Dragon's purple glowing chest in Dragon Age: Veilguard.

Like some of the Revenants you’ve fought before, this dragon will occasionally cast dark fog, limiting your vision and preventing your companions from using spells. Play defensively and dodge when necessary. When the dragon is close to being staggered, move in and strike its glowing purple chest for maximum damage.

If you’re low on potions, break the green vases scattered around the battlefield to replenish them. The difficulty level significantly impacts the fight’s intensity. Watch out for its Dragon Beam attack—use a shield if available or dodge it. Pay attention to the red warning signal above your head during melee attacks and avoid them, especially when under dark fog.

If the fight proves too difficult, consider swapping companions or bringing those who can heal you. Don’t forget to upgrade your gear, equip unique items, and apply enchantments for the best possible setup.
