10 Most Unique Ranged Weapons In Video Games

These ranged weapons are some of the weirdest you’ll find in gaming.

You sometimes have to play a bit of the game to get your paws on a really deadly piece of equipment. Then, the game sometimes takes that weapon away. It may hurt to see it go, but it’s understandable, as some guns and swords are so good that having them throughout an entire game would be a little too easy. These are the weapons that fit that description.

Grog Nozzle

Borderlands 2: Tiny Tina’s Assault On Dragon Keep

Tiny Tina's Assault On Dragon Keep a large purple pistol with the word Moxxi written in white across its teal and yellow barrel with a box in the top left detailing its abilities.

Almost all guns are designed to hurt people. However, the Grog Nozzle also helps people, as it heals you as you fire it. So, you’re simultaneously lowering your enemy’s HP while boosting your own. This makes it a useful tool to have as you’re fighting countless adversaries in Borderlands 2.

To acquire the gun, you need to start a mission called The Beard Makes The Man. Once you complete it, though, you lose the weapon. Technically, you could never turn the mission in, allowing you to keep the firearm, making it a permanent weapon. Yet, it’s designed to be a temporary one.

Smart Pistol MK6

Titanfall 2

Jack Cooper running and gunning a line of enemies with a Smart Pistol while another character speaks through comms in Titanfall 2's The Fold Weapon Mission.

Titanfall 2 has one of the best FPS story campaigns ever, but you don’t get your hands on the coolest weapon in the game until the final mission. This weapon is the Smart Pistol MK6.

It looks like a typical pistol. However, it has an auto-targeting system, allowing you to aim at multiple people at once. When you fire, you don’t need to worry about being incredibly accurate, as if you’re locked on, your bullets will fly into their brains. This allows you to jump around and run along walls in the middle of gunfights.

Gun Del Sol

Boktai 2: Solar Boy Django

The Gun Del Sol is a deadly weapon that shoots balls of solar energy at your enemies. In Boktai 2, you have the gun right at the start of the game, and it’s extremely useful. Its energy consumption is very low, and it does incredible damage. Sadly, the weapon gets broken in a tussle with a vampire.

We love a good shooter with solid guns. But one with strange and bizarre weapons? We are all in for those!

You manage to fix it up, but the new version isn’t anywhere near as great as the original. Therefore, while you technically wield this gun for much of the game, it’s only temporarily excellent.

Blade Of Olympus

God Of War 2

The Blade of Olympus stuck in the floor in God of War 2.

Considering how tough Kratos from God of War is, it’s a surprise that he needs weapons. Yet, he can acquire many great ones during the series. Among the best of them is the Blade of Olympus.

Early in the second game, you’re given the weapon by Zeus, and you use it to eliminate the mighty Colossus of Rhodes, along with some regular enemies that get involved. Then, Zeus kills you and takes the sword away until you retrieve it for a short time at the end of the game. Based on how deadly it is against the boss and his allies, it’s a shame you don’t get to carry it for longer.

4

Deathbringer

Final Fantasy 4

Cecil confronts the king in Final Fantasy 4.

Any sword with the name Deathbringer has to be a strong weapon. After all, it needs to be good at bringing death upon your enemies. In Final Fantasy 4, the Deathbringer is very strong. This is because it is able to kill some enemies in a single hit. So, it’s a perfect tool for the Dark Knight version of the protagonist.

Unfortunately, though, you change from a Dark Knight to a Paladin partway through the game. As a result, you can’t use your dark weapons anymore. This includes the excellent Deathbringer.

3

Super Gravity Gun

Half-Life 2

The Super Gravity Gun carrying an energy ball in Half-Life 2.

During most of Half-Life 2, you get to use the iconic Gravity Gun, which allows you to grab and move things around. When you visit the Citadel, your Gravity Gun gets supercharged and becomes a far better version of the weapon.

You can now pick up much heavier items and throw them around. You can even grab organic things like people. So, what was already a useful gun turns into a dangerous one. That’s only when you’re in the Citadel, though.

Railgun

Resident Evil 3 Remake

Throughout the Resident Evil 3 Remake, you’re hunted by the seemingly indestructible Nemesis. In several battles, you land some significant blows on the beast. Yet, none of it keeps him down for good. The most that happens is that he mutates and transforms.

By the end of the game, he’s a giant monster that barely resembles the original creature. The only way you can beat him is by using the huge railgun that’s in the facility where your final encounter with the Nemesis occurs. The weapon is very slow to fire, but it packs an incredible punch; it’s enough to destroy Nemesis, after all.

Hammer Of Dawn

Gears Of War Series

Marcus attacking a creature with the Hammer of Dawn in Gears of War.

During the Gears of War series, you sometimes come up against formidable enemies that traditional weaponry can’t do anything against. In these moments, you’re typically given the Hammer of Dawn.

With this weapon, you can target something, and a laser from a satellite in space will come crashing down on what you’re pointing at. It kills even the biggest beasts quickly. However, you can only use it at certain times, as the satellite isn’t always online and working. It conveniently works when you need it most.
