The fighting game has dropped to the “Overwhelmingly Negative” category on Steam following the arrival of Tekken 8‘s Season 2 update. This update sparked outrage among fans, with developers now seemingly scaling things back as mentioned in a recent post on Twitter. The Tekken 8 team says it is aware of community feedback regarding the new season and is now carefully reviewing the game’s balancing, specifically Paul’s Hammer of the Gods and Jack-8’s Jab Elbow.

Many had hoped this new season would dial things back when it came to Tekken 8‘s gameplay, which has been criticized for being too aggressive by some. However, the opposite happened, with Tekken 8‘s divisive Heat system feeling even more oppressive with certain characters. The team states that an emergency patch will drop in mid to late April, with more changes likely coming at a later date.

Aside from gameplay issues, players have also taken issue with Tekken 8‘s live-service approach, criticizing the game’s reward and unlock system. While developers likely want to appease the core Tekken 8 player base, they also want to ensure the game is ready for Evo 2025, the world’s largest annual fighting game event. Evo 2025 kicks off on August 1, and Tekken 8 is the primary game featured in the event. It’s unclear what’s in store for Tekken 8 down the line, but 2025 will be a notable year for the fighting game nonetheless.
