Fans of the franchise have been begging for new content regarding the Dragon Ball Super property, both in its manga and anime forms. After the Tournament of Power concluded in the anime, it went on an indefinite hiatus, ending only with the promise of how the series would return at an unspecified point in the future. Seeing how the manga went on after the anime ended, there is a lot that fans have to look forward to.
The Moro and Granolah arcs have been the best in the entirety of Dragon Ball Super in the eyes of many fans. Not only were they very concise and solid in terms of storytelling and structure, but they also had incredible moments that made the characters shine, with Goku’s various iterations of Ultra Instinct and Vegeta’s Ultra Ego particularly coming to mind. These moments were amazing to see and made a lot of sense from a narrative perspective, so to see them make their debut on the screen is sure to break the internet.
On the other hand, the return of the Dragon Ball Super manga is just as awaited. Following the death of the legendary creator of the franchise, Akira Toriyama, the manga also went on an indefinite hiatus, which was sad to see considering how the story had ended on a high note, showing great promise for the future. Conversely, the return of the Dragon Ball Super franchise could also prove to be its downfall if it isn’t handled correctly. Firstly, one of the biggest complaints that this series received upon its debut was the quality of its animation, something which has gone down in the history books as some of the worst animation to ever exist for an anime series. The initial arcs of Super had already been covered in the Battle of Gods and Resurrection F films respectively, so the anime adaptation of these arcs was incredibly rushed.
Due to this, the quality was terrible and was something everyone hated to see. So, if the anime returns, but some arcs are treated the same way, particularly the Broly and Super Hero arcs which have already been portrayed in a film format, interest in the series can die down very quickly. However, this is unlikely, since Dragon Ball Daima was a small inclusion in the franchise which blew everyone away with its incredible animation.
Power comes in response to a need, not a desire. You have to create that need.
On the other hand, many fear that the biggest thing that the manga can suffer from is a huge flaw of the series as a whole, which is lazy storytelling. Super has had multiple examples of this, particularly the fact that Krillin and Android 17 were more or less at the same level of power as Super Saiyan Blue Goku despite this not making a lick of sense. The franchise has often done things like this in order to fast-track much of its storytelling, which has led to many people saying that the Dragon Ball franchise isn’t well-written.
Moreover, aside from nonsensical power scaling, many believe that side characters don’t get the justice that they deserve, particularly Vegeta. While the Saiyan Prince has become arguably the most loved character in the franchise, many believe that the writers have always had something against him since he is never given the win against a major opponent or is quickly demeaned after an important moment in his arc. If this similar trend continues for the franchise, Dragon Ball Super won’t be as loved as it once was and may even fail.
