Hollow Knight: Silksong is back in the spotlight, as the recent Switch 2 Nintendo Direct event offered the first update in what feels like a lifetime. Originally announced back in 2019, Hollow Knight: Silksong has faced a series of delays over the years that have left many gamers feeling caught in limbo with no end in sight.
While the wait isn’t entirely over, Nintendo has reignited hope that Silksong is closer to release than the silence suggests. Silksong‘s release could be just around the corner if everything goes according to plan. Of course, the history of delays is bound to make eager fans skeptical, and for good reason, but regardless, developer Team Cherry reaffirmed the game’s existence in one of the best ways possible.

Silksong Has Once Again Left Gamers Wanting More
Nintendo’s Switch 2 showcase was filled to the brim with major reveals. There were bound to be surprises, but Silksong showing itself felt like a pipe dream. Thankfully, apparently dreams do come true, and Silksong has reassured fans that, even though a release date hasn’t been set in stone, the follow-up to the beloved Hollow Knight is potentially on track for a 2025 launch.
The sequel’s appearance was merely a few seconds, but this small bread crumb has made Silksong feel way more like a reality than it did yesterday. Now, discourse and speculation regarding Silksong is buzzing through the air, and it may prove to be just the small kick Team Cherry needs to help make Silksong‘s impending launch date announcement that much more exciting.
While the wait isn’t entirely over, Nintendo has reignited hope that Silksong is closer to release than the silence suggests.
The Switch 2 Has Already Promised a Handful of New Games
- Mario Kart World
- Metroid Prime 4: Beyond
- Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour
- Drag x Drive
- Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment
- The Duskbloods
- Kirby Air Riders
- Donkey Kong Bananza
- Survival Kids
Not to mention, there are already confirmed ports for major third-party hits like Cyberpunk 2077 and Split Fiction, which tease just how much more powerful the Switch 2 is than its predecessor. The upgraded specs of the Switch 2 could be a great way to experience Silksong‘s beautiful art style. In addition, the mouse mechanics of the Joy-Cons may add an extra layer of versatility for players, too.
Well-known leaker Extas1s recently claimed that Silksong could potentially launch as soon as June 2025. This should be taken with a grain of salt, but the timing lines up well for the Switch 2, as the Nintendo console is set to release on June 5, 2025.
Silksong’s Nintendo Direct Cameo Should Still Be Viewed Carefully
As exciting as Silksong‘s appearance is, a lot could change between now and the coming months. This isn’t the first event that Silksong has been featured at. Back in 2022, at an Xbox Showcase, Silksong was confirmed as a day-one Game Pass launch. On top of that, it was claimed that the sequel would be available by the summer of 2023. Clearly, that didn’t happen, so there is still the risk of Silksong facing another delay before 2025 comes to an end.
Only time will tell what 2025 looks like for Silksong, but hopefully Team Cherry can make it across the finish line this year. Hollow Knight was a massive indie success, and it would be great to finally see a full-blown franchise born from such a celebrated title. Until Team Cherry makes a launch date official, eager gamers waiting for Silksong may want to approach the game with some skeptical optimism, but it at least feels like a more promising time to be a Hollow Knight fan.
