The Nintendo Switch 2 Direct last night finally revealed the console in all its glory, along with its new features and a release date of June 5. We also got to see a few first party games, as well as a bunch of third party ports and upcoming releases. While pre-orders will be packed as soon as they go live, there are some things that Nintendo isn’t telling you about the console.

The Switch 2 Can Never Beat The Switch

Nintendo, as always, is suffering from its own success (Wii U, anyone?).

The Switch 2 is definitely better and more powerful in every way. If the slew of third party games revealed for the console isn’t enough to convince you, Nintendo has put out a detailed spec sheet to show you just how much has gone into it. However, there is one element in which the Switch 2 falls short of its predecessor.

They Forgot To Switch 2 A New Battery

Of course, I know that given the sheer power of the Switch 2, it will take up more power, and that Nintendo has implemented a more powerful 5220 mAh lithium Ion battery to make the console capable of running these triple-A titles. However, in terms of sheer battery life, it seems that it will remain roughly the same as that of the Switch. In fact, it’s lower than that of newer models of the Switch.

As noted by Kotaku, older models of the Switch, having a serial number that starts with XA have a battery life of approximately 2.5 to 6.5 hours. The battery life of newer models, with a serial number starting with XT, is approx. 4.5 to 9 hours. The Switch 2’s battery life is approx. 2 to 6.5 hours, meaning it’s lower than that of newer Switch models.

As has been the case in the past, Nintendo is likely to release a half-step console in a few years. It will probably come with an OLED screen and better battery life, but I can’t help but feel disappointed that these things aren’t already incorporated into the new console. With fans already complaining that the price of the console and Mario Kart World feel like a “scam”, this is just one more reason for them to feel this way.
