Summary

  • Leaked Minecraft footage reveals a tribute to Technoblade, a popular YouTuber who passed away in 2022.
  • At some point in the movie, a pig wearing a golden crown (just like his skin) wanders into the frame.
  • TommyInnit also highlighted this homage after attending the premiere.

Ahead of its April 4 release, a wealth of Minecraft footage has leaked online. Both post-credit scenes were uploaded in full, along with a showdown against the villain and clips of Jack Black yelling the names of mundane items. All of which have been taken down as quickly as they appeared. Don’t want to spoil the big surprises, I guess, like… ‘Slime BLOCK’.

But there’s a touching homage, nestled between all the memes, to Technoblade, who passed away in 2022 — a year after his cancer diagnosis. At some point in the movie, a pig wearing a golden crown, just like his iconic skin in Minecraft, wanders into the frame.

Not only has this moment leaked on TikTok, but TommyInnit, a fellow YouTuber, also mentioned the easter egg on Twitter after attending the film’s premiere: “Man, the techno reference🥹 thank you. @Minecraft”.

Technoblade’s Cameo Appears To Have Changed

When it was first revealed that several YouTubers would have cameos in the film, it was reported that Technoblade would be represented as a statue in Steve’s town, dubbed “The Legend of the Village”. It’s unclear if the statue is still in the movie or if it was replaced by the pig seen in the TikTok embedded above. But perhaps a living tribute is more apt, as it fits the message the community rallied behind after the news broke two years ago.

Technoblade’s fans put together a petition shortly after his death, which amassed over 75,000 signatures, drawing the attention of Mojang. And as a result, new splash text was added to the game, which says, “Technoblade Never Dies!”, truly keeping his spirit alive.

“Thank you all for supporting my content over the years,” Technoblade said in his farewell letter. “If I had another 100 lives, I think I’d choose to be Technoblade every single time, as those were the happiest years of my life. I hope you guys enjoyed my content and that I made some of you laugh, and I hope you all go on to live long, prosperous, and happy lives because I love you guys.”
