Marvel Rivals Season 2 release date, new heroes, and Team-Ups rework confirmed

The Marvel Rivals Season 2 release date is just around the corner, and Ultron and Emma Frost are going to be joining the already massive roster of heroes. As well as unveiling some other great new additions and improvements arriving next season, such as costume gifting and a rework of Team-Ups, NetEase has also dropped some exciting news about its future plans for seasons. In a nutshell, they’ll be shorter and will deliver a new Marvel Rivals hero every month, starting from Season 3 onwards.

Let’s stick with Season 2 for now, though, because it’s looking like a real treat already for Marvel Rivals fans. Titled the Hellfire Gala, Emma Frost will first join the fray at the beginning of the season. She’s a versatile Vanguard with a kit built around themes of diamonds and telepathy that can both shield allies and “obliterate foes.” Ultron will join the multiplayer game with the mid-season 2.5 update, but NetEase is currently tight-lipped about his role and abilities for the time being. I’m intrigued to see where these two new characters eventually land in our Marvel Rivals tier list.

While new heroes are great, an arguably bigger aspect to Season 2 is the first major adjustment to Marvel Rivals’ Team-Up abilities. New Team-Ups will be added, some will be tweaked and reworked, while others are going to be completely removed. That sounds to me like a major meta shakeup.

NetEase has even previewed a few of the fresh Team-Ups that’ll arrive next season. Mental Projection sees newbie Emma Frost, Magneto, and Psylocke combine to create illusions on the battlefield. Doctor Strange and Scarlet Witch will pair up for what looks like a very high DPS attack called Arcane Order. Finally, Stars Aligned sees Captain America work with Winter Soldier to rapidly leap towards allies that are engaged in a close quarters battle in order to help deliver a “relentless” counter-attack.” The dev diary above also goes through some of the reworked and removed Team-Ups.

Also arriving in Marvel Rivals Season 2 is the ability to gift costumes to your friends, and several popular skins are also getting recolors. There will of course be a rank reset in competitive play as well, where players will drop nine divisions below their best Season 1.5 rank.

While Season 2 will last for three months, just like Season 1 before it, NetEase has also revealed that things will be speeding up from Season 3 onwards. Seasons will become two months long, which means that a brand new hero will join the roster every single month for the foreseeable future.
