One Piece’s latest developments took fans back to the Underworld, where the character of Loki was put under focus once again, and this time around, Oda revealed what can be considered to be the most shocking development surrounding him so far, and it concerns one of the most legendary pirates in the world of One Piece, Rocks D. Xebec.

How Loki Met Rocks D. Xebec Long Ago

  • Loki Set Out To Sea Long Ago
  • Loki Wanted To Join The Rocks Pirates

As was revealed to the fans in One Piece chapter 1145, Loki and Rocks actually have a big connection. Much to the surprise of all the fans, Loki met Rocks long ago and the two actually even fought against each other. Loki is no stranger to the sea and has set out to sail on multiple occasions. For instance, fans recently found out in the Elbaf arc that Loki set out to sail after the death of King Harald around 14 years ago. But, it appears that he also sailed the seas long before that. Fans already know that Rocks died on the island of God Valley, or is at least reported to have died. The God Valley Incident happened 38 years ago, which means that Loki likely met him around 40 years ago, or perhaps even more.

I can imagine having that certain someone to look up to as a kid. I was the same. — Loki

This puts into perspective two things. The first is that Loki sailed on many occasions, not just once, and the second is that he was actually very young when he fought against Rocks. Not all fans may be aware of this, but Giants and humans age differently. Since they live three times as long on average, the Giants mature differently. According to Oda, Giants mature at half the rate of humans, meaning they reach full adulthood by 40. Right now, Loki is 68 years old, and 40 years ago, Loki would’ve been 28 years old. But, in Giant years, Loki would’ve only been 14 or perhaps even younger, depending on when they actually met, which puts into perspective why their battle was one-sided.

Loki’s Challenge To Rocks

Loki Wanted To Join The Rocks Pirates

Loki’s main reason for seeking out Rocks was to simply join his crew. As seen in the chapter, Loki wanted to be a part of the Rocks Pirates and fight alongside Rocks. It can be said that, in many ways, Rocks is the only person that Loki can consider to be worthy of his respect, at least for now. Upon seeking Loki, Xebec clearly refused his request, which led the former to challenge him. Naturally, Rocks utterly demolished Loki in battle, as was expected. This shouldn’t come as a surprise to any fan. After all, Loki was very young back then and hadn’t even reached adulthood. On top of that, Loki didn’t even have his Devil Fruit, as is clear from the fact that he only consumed him around 14 years or so ago.

One Piece has a lot of potential. Oda plans a massive spinoff for a very important character.

If you’re not gonna take me with you then fight me. — Loki to Xebec

Loki’s battle with Rocks ending terribly for him ended up being his biggest regret. To this day, Loki laments the fact that he was born in the era that he was. Had he been slightly older, he could perhaps have joined up with Rocks and fought by his side. Now, however, Rocks is dead and his pirate crew has been destroyed as well.

Why Loki Wanted To Join The Rocks Pirates

Loki absolutely cannot join the Rocks Pirates, but he can certainly carry on the legacy of Xebec. To say that Xebec is special to him is an understatement. Loki wants to be just like him, and above all, he wants to earn his acknowledgment. It can be said that Loki looks at Xebec the same way Luffy looks at Shanks, and that adds yet another exciting layer to an already phenomenal character.

Hopefully, fans will get to see more of Loki and Xebec when his full flashback is revealed to the fans, which shouldn’t be too far away now. All fans need to do is sit back patiently and wait for Oda to illustrate the true past of Loki that fans are unaware of right now.

One Piece chapter 1145 will be out very soon, later this week. As usual, One Piece is going to drop on the upcoming Sunday. In Japan, One Piece drops at 12AM JST on Monday. However, the vast majority of international readers will see the chapter available on April 6. The official release date of One Piece Chapter 1145 is April 6, 2025.
