One of the most essential tools for exploration in this wasteland is dynamite, a powerful item that can help in different situations thanks to its high explosive impact. However, it’s also extremely dangerous if not handled correctly, as it can harm your teammates or even yourself.
What Is Dynamite In Dead Rails?
Dynamite in Dead Rails has the classic appearance of four red sticks tied together with black tape and a lit fuse. It is currently the only explosive item in the game. While it’s powerful, it’s not recommended as a weapon for killing enemies.
Dynamite can kill you or your teammates if not used carefully, so it’s best reserved for specific uses, like blowing open the vault.

How To Use Dynamite
Using dynamite is a simple process. All you need is a stick of dynamite and a torch.
To use dynamite effectively, first make sure you’ve found or purchased a stick. You can either store it in your sack or weld it to the train for easier access later. To pick it up, aim at it until it’s highlighted with a white outline, then press the grab button. If you’re on a PC, you can press Z to weld it directly to the train.
When you’re ready to use it, unweld it from the train if needed and take it out of your sack or grab it from the ground. Do the same with a torch. Once both items are in front of you, bring them close together. When the fuse ignites, you’ll see a spark and hear a hissing sound. You’ll have five seconds to get away before it explodes, so make sure you’re at a safe distance.
Open The Bank’s Vault With Dynamite
If you don’t have the code or just want an easier way to open the vault, you can use dynamite. Simply place the dynamite in front of the bank vault door, light the fuse with a torch, and back away from the blast zone.
Wait five seconds for the explosion, then go in and grab the loot.

- Dynamite is not stackable, so manage your inventory carefully.
- Early in the run, check supply buildings or dead bandits for dynamite.
