Assassin’s Creed Shadows features many interesting characters to interact with, which extends to your allies. There are six allies in total to unlock as you advance through the story of AC Shadows. If you want to 100 percent complete the game, you’ll need to recruit all of this half-dozen and level them up to the max.

If you want to recruit Yaya as an ally in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, you’ll have to choose a few right options and finish a quest for her.

Fully training your first ally will earn you an achievement/trophy, and the process of training this ally up will earn you at least a couple more. Training your allies also has big benefits, as they really come in handy, especially during tough combat situations.

The six allies in AC Shadows are all recruited in different ways and at different points in the game’s story. You can check which allies you have interacted with by heading to the Objectives tab within the pause menu. The League circle contains your allies and other characters associated with your hideout, such as Tomiko and Junjiro. You can choose any of the six allies to unlock The Front Of The Pack trophy/achievement, but Yaya will be the focus of this guide as she’s the first ally you meet.

To be able to train Yaya, you’ll first need to recruit her by completing The Stray Dogs quest, which is available after completing AC Shadows’ first act. If you select the correct dialogue options in this mission (spare the life of the mercenary and encourage Yaya to forgive Tetsuo), you’ll have the option to recruit Yaya as an ally, which you should absolutely do.

If Yaya is the first ally you’ve completed a mission for, you’ll earn the Build Your League bronze trophy/ten gamerscore achievement.

The Build Your League Trophy/Achievement is the only missable one in AC Shadows, so if you’re going for the Platinum, complete this before finishing the story.

How To Train Allies

Once you’ve recruited your first ally, you then need to train them to their max rank (veteran). To train allies, you’ll need to have a Dojo in your hideout, which you can build by pressing the prompt to “Improve Your Hideout” or heading to the table in the back-left corner of your hideout’s main building (Hiroma). Dojos don’t come cheaply; you’ll need 350 crops, 260 wood, and 90 minerals to buy one.

A level one Dojo allows you to train allies to initiate rank, but you’ll need to get yours up to veteran for this trophy/achievement. That means your Dojo will have to be level three, which will cost an additional 1,170 crops, 870 wood, and 290 minerals in total to upgrade.

If this is the first building you’ve fully upgraded in your hideout, you’ll get the Against Wood and Stone Achievement/ Trophy.

Once your Dojo is leveled up, head over to the Dojo, and you’ll see a board in the back-right corner where you can “Manage Allies”. Choose Yaya and, if you have enough Won to train her to the next level, do so until she’s the highest level possible. The Front of the Pack trophy/achievement will pop. For Yaya, for example, this will cost a total of 4,100 Won.

The benefits of having fully-trained allies in AC Shadows extend far beyond the trophies/achievements you’ll unlock carrying out this process. You can have up to two allies equipped at a time, and they can be called into battle to help you out. Each has unique abilities and train up differently, so make sure that you have the best possible allies equipped to assist you when you need.

If you’ve not got enough resources or money to be able to carry these tasks out, the quick guide below should help you out.

Gathering Resources In AC Shadows

A Port Trader merchant's inventory that you're able to buy in Assassin's Creed Shadows.

There are multiple ways to get resources and money quickly in AC Shadows, but the most direct way is to trade with Port Traders at any of the major settlements on the map. They’ll usually have plenty of crops, wood, and minerals to buy, although this will cost you a lot of Won, making it harder to train your allies after you’ve built and upgraded your Dojo.

You can sell some of your crafting materials to get Won back, though, as these won’t be needed for this part of the game.

Alternatively, you can complete contracts at your hideout, which will be within your Kakurega. While the rewards for these aren’t usually very large, they normally take place in enemy bases, which have large amounts of resources you can plunder after defeating your foes. You normally only get three to choose from, but they do refresh every change in season, meaning you’ll never have to wait too long for more to become available.
