How To Unlock The Celeste Three Mission In Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition

So much of Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition is centered around the city of NLA. It is a multicultural city of not just humans, but of the many other races that have found themselves stranded on the planet of Mira. It is a city that deals with many growing pains as a result, but is overall a resounding success that shows the growth that can be achieved through diversity.

Smash past those mission level requirements in relatively swift time in Xenoblade Chronicles X.

However, some people can never get past petty greed, even towards those they have known their entire life. That is what The Celeste Three focuses on, and the consequences of that same greed. It’s a hard mission to start, and will take you a while before you see the reward at the very end.

How To Start The Celeste Three Mission

Finding The Mission

The Celeste Three is a unique mission in that it doesn’t appear naturally on the map like many other missions. It is not unlocked just by having finished other missions, but by what you’ve heard. That’s right, there is a single background NPC you must hear speak about The Celeste Three before the mission actually becomes available to you.

Note that before this background dialogue can be heard, you must have completed Chapter Five.

The NPC can be found in the Hangar beneath the Administrative District, right beside where Doug normally hangs out. However, this NPC does not appear until nighttime, so make sure you’re looking for them at the appropriate time. They will have a yellow speech bubble above them to let you know they’re important. After listening to this, you are free to find the mission in Deliverance Park in the Residential District.

Speak with Fosdyke and he will ask for you to talk to him at Repenta Diner instead, where he will then tell you the tale of the White Gold, their help in a murder, and the betrayal of his former friend, Briggs. He asks you to seek out Moorehouse as proof of his tale and to find the location of Briggs.

Getting Moorhouse’s Trust

Moorehouse is found just beneath the road leading to the Commercial District, on the steps that lead down to the gel layer of NLA. Chat with him, who will tell you that you must prove your trust to him and your ability to defeat Briggs by first slaying five Sea Forfexes. These will be marked on the map, and can be found around many of the beaches of Primordia.

After defeating them, return to Moorehouse, who will now have your full trust. He discloses that Briggs has been living in a cave called the Molten Hollow, hoarding the rest of the white gold. Now go seek him out.

Should You Interrogate Or Execute Briggs?

Once you reach Molten Hollow, you will see that may of the enemies are of a much higher level than what the mission recommends. Thankfully, especially if you have a Skell, these enemies are quite easy to avoid. If you don’t, or you’re struggling to get past some of the enemies, just use Shadowrunner with someone like Elma to speed past them.

Once you reach the end, you will be forced into a battle with Briggs. Once he is defeated, you will have a chance to talk with him as he explains his side of the story, or you can outright execute him like you promised. The quest will ultimately end the same regardless of the choice you make, but the immediate consequences are more immediate.

  • Interrogate

Briggs will tell you that he was forced to work for the others, and that he had to live in the cave to protect their gold while they got to live comfortably. He then gives you his key to open the vault.

However, it states three more are needed, and this is when Fosdyke and Moorehouse also appear and explain the full story. You must then defeat all three of them again for the quest to complete.

  • Execute

Rather than wasting your time listening to Briggs, you can kill him immediately and take his key. Head to the vault and see that it requires four keys in total.

After this, Fosdyke and Moorehouse appear, astonished that you truly did kill Briggs. You will be given an option here to hear the full story if you want, or you can choose to fight them. You must fight regardless, so choose whichever you want.

No matter what you choose, you will get all three keys that they were holding, and the misson will complete. Your reward will be, alongside the keys, 210 EXP, and the Candela Series and Human-Made Skell holofigures.

Notably, you still cannot open the vault as you are missing a key. This will be gotten later, in a mission called Gold Rush.
