Koelnmesse and Game – The German Games Industry Association announced recently that the popular gaming event Gamescom would be “further expanded” in the future, in addition to a new deal securing the festival’s location. Thanks to its popularity, Gamescom 2024 welcomed 1,462 exhibiting companies from 64 countries and hosted 335,000 attendees from 120 countries, which is an impressive feat that seems to grow every year.

The Latin American version of the event is gearing up to deliver its annual showcase very soon, with Shuhei Yoshida confirmed to present a talk at Gamescom LATAM covering his experience in the gaming industry. The festival sees Gamescom partner with the BIG festival, Latin America’s largest gaming event, and this year, it will be held in São Paulo, Brazil, from April 30th to May 4th, 2025.

The post highlighted plans to make Gamescom a “festival for a wide variety of pop cultures around the world,” noting the state government would continue to provide the event with “intensive support” to expand its unique stature as the world’s largest video games event. The festival’s popularity draws in big developers every year, including The Pokemon Company’s confirmed appearance at Gamescom LATAM 2025, and the press release also highlighted a recent deal that will keep the main event on its traditional turf.

Gamescom Announces Deal to Remain in Cologne, Germany With Future Plans to Expand

Japanese publisher Nintendo was noticeably missing from Gamescom 2024, but fans got their fill recently during the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, and Gamescom 2025 is expected to deliver a stellar line-up of developers. The event will also remain in Cologne, Germany, after a new contract was signed in the presence of Henriette Reker, Mayor of Cologne, and Nathanael Liminski, Minister for Federal and European Affairs, International Affairs and Media of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia and Head of the State Chancellery, labeling Cologne and Gamescom as the “perfect match.”

With only a few weeks to go until the event’s run, Gamescom LATAM has confirmed the BIG Festival finalists for 2025. The festival announced that 90 video games became finalists from around the world, eligible to compete for over 17 varying awards. A record-breaking 962 games from 71 countries signed up to compete this year, and some of the finalists include All Possible Futures’ The Plucky Square from Australia, Shared Memory’s Animal Well from the United Kingdom, and Red Candle Games’ Nine Sols from Taiwan.
