Nintendo’s big Switch 2 Direct was probably the last place on Earth you’d expect Elden Ring developer FromSoftware to announce a new game, but that’s exactly what happened earlier this week. The Duskbloods was a very welcome surprise during the show, channeling wonderful gothic/steampunk vibes so reminiscent of FromSoftware’s best game – Bloodborne – that many instantly called it a spiritual successor.
FromSoftware fans were all hyped up on social media after the show, until the studio revealed more details about the game. Even though it looked and sounded like a single-player game, FromSoftware revealed in a later tweet that The Duskbloods is actually a PvPvE game, which will have eight players enter a game and throw down with each other while tackling typical FromSoftware dangers.
FromSoftware Fans Are Disappointed The Duskbloods Is Multiplayer-Focused
It seems as though almost every FromSoftware fan had the exact same reaction upon hearing the news, as the hype over what many were calling Bloodborne 2 eventually dissolved into disappointment and worry. You can find many posts expressing that sentiment on places like the FromSoftware subreddit, such as user Projected_Cornbread’s post embedded above.

Marks all over the shop, you’ll be one sooner or later.
A lot of the disappointment seems to stem from the fact that The Duskbloods will be the second multiplayer game released by FromSoftware in quick succession, with Elden Ring: Nightreign launching next month. It’s an odd choice for sure, and even has one user called Xcylo1 “worried about their plans for the future”.
In a different post, a user called Matthewrichvrd is disappointed that we’re getting “another Nightreign in a Bloodborne skin a year later”, while another called Aviralv_22 admits that their “hype went from 100 to 0 real fast” upon hearing that The Duskbloods isn’t single player. Clearly a lot of unhappy fans.
There are some that wish fans would give FromSoftware the benefit of the doubt, but it’s understandable for many to be disappointed when the studio is primarily known for single player experiences. Personally, I’d be lying if I said my hype didn’t fall off when I found out, but it’s worth keeping in mind that FromSoftware usually has multiple games in the works at a time. A new single player game will come, but maybe not until 2027.
