Elden Ring’s New Armor on Switch 2 Should Be Exactly What Fans Expect

Elden Ring's New Armor on Switch 2 Should Be Exactly What Fans Expect

After what feels like a lifetime of hearing various rumors and leaks, it’s finally been confirmed that Elden Ring is coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 this year. Officially titled Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition, this Switch 2-exclusive version comes with both the award-winning base game and last year’s Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, giving players roughly 150 hours of premium FromSoftware content to play through on their shiny new Nintendo handheld.

Alongside Shadow of the Erdtree and the base game, Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition will add “new armor, weapons and customization features for Torrent’s appearance,” according to Bandai Namco’s official website. It’s unconfirmed what exactly these new items and features will be, but if Elden Ring follows in the footsteps of past third-party Switch ports like Skyrim, there could be some sets themed around Nintendo IP, and there are some obvious games to draw inspiration from.

Elden Ring Nightreign is primed to redefine many aspects of the FromSoftware formula, one of which has inspired an almost ubiquitous turn of phrase.

Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition Should Include Nintendo-Themed Customization Options

Nintendo Games That Should Inspire Elden Ring’s New Armors

When it comes to adding any Nintendo-themed items to Elden Ring, FromSoftware should primarily draw inspiration from series that already suit the game’s dark fantasy aesthetic. Naturally, The Legend of Zelda franchise would be a perfect fit for Elden Ring, especially when it comes to potential armor sets. Both Link’s classic green outfit and his more recent blue tunic would work well with Elden Ring‘s art style.

Though its Sci-Fi design would need to be given a more fantasy-focused overhaul, the Chozo Power Suit worn by Metroid‘s Samus Aran would be another great contender for Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition‘s new armor sets.

Nintendo Games That Should Inspire Elden Ring’s New Weapons

The Legend of Zelda would be a go-to franchise once again if Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition wanted to add some Nintendo-themed weapons. The Master Sword is the most obvious pick, being not just Zelda‘s most iconic weapon but one of the most iconic weapons in gaming history. The Master Sword’s recent designs would fit right in with Elden Ring‘s fantasy setting, and it’d the ideal choice for a new Light Greatsword, a weapon type that was introduced in Shadow of the Erdtree.

Another great pick for a Nintendo-themed weapon in Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition would be the Sacred Bow from Kid Icarus, which could come with a unique Weapon Art that allows players to briefly fly into the air and rain down arrows from above.

Bandai Namco has stated that these new features will also be coming to Elden Ring on other platforms via DLC, so they might not be entirely Nintendo-themed.

Nintendo Games That Should Inspire Elden Ring’s New Torrent Cosmetics

A brand-new feature for Elden Ring, the Nintendo Switch 2 version of the game will introduce customization options for Torrent, the game’s Spectral Steed mount. It’s unconfirmed what these new customization options will be, but it’d be great to see a few cosmetics themed around some iconic Nintendo mounts. Again, Zelda would be a well of inspiration, with Epona’s saddle being a great pick for some Torrent apparel. Super Mario‘s beloved green dinosaur, Yoshi, would also be a welcome reference point for Elden Ring.
