Diablo-esque ARPG Jotunnslayer adds 8 new weapons and the Norse god of the sea

ARPG fans are spoiled for choice right now. The ever dependable Diablo 4 keeps ploughing on with new seasons, Path of Exile 2 continues to evolve in early access, and Last Epoch recently sprang up as a worthy newcomer too. However, with its roguelike twists, bullet hell elements, and world entrenched in Norse mythology, Jotunnslayer is one to also have an eye on. While not as grand in scope, this early access game is providing some great Diablo-esque action, and its second major update since launching has just arrived.

Just a few weeks back, Jotunnslayer expanded its lineup of gods with its first big update, but it’s already pumping out even more hellish content. For today’s Patch 0.3, it’s the turn of Njord, the Norse god of the sea and wealth. For the unaware, Jotunnslayer’s gods offer up sets of themed skills and abilities that you can gradually unlock and add to your character as a run progresses. As you might suspect, Njord’s offering is aquatic in its nature. Abilities include a fish bowl-style protective bubble and a Viking longship that can be summoned to assist you in battle. Playing into the fact that Njord also represents wealth, his passive abilities will “enhance your gold acquisition, retention, and chest spawns,” so you should have plenty of coin at hand.

Alongside the RPG’s new god, two new weapons for each of the game’s four character classes have been added.

The Berserker gets access to Jagged Axes, which are low cooldown but high crit chance weapons, and Sea Wolf’s Axes, which deal very high damage, pull enemies towards you, and are guaranteed to slow anything that’s hit by them. The Seeress receives the Totemic Staff, which passively regenerates your health and deals moderate damage, and the Tidecaller Staff, which gives you loads of opportunities to stun and knock back enemies. Revenant players can now use the Composite Bow, a ranged weapon that can produce large area of effect attacks, and the Serpent Bow, which has a brilliant skill that summons “a deep-sea wyrm” to create a continuous area of effect around you. Finally, The Flame Sister gets the Cruel Dagger, which is all about increasing your crits, and the Pirate Dagger, which grants you faster attack speed and some high damage numbers.

This is a super healthy injection of new content for Jotunnslayer as it continues to ramp up to a 1.0 launch. Even though it’s a more compact ARPG experience, and isn’t as high profile as the likes of Diablo 4 and Path of Exile 2, it’s not skimping on the amount of build options, which is great to see.
