For new players coming to the game, they might be wondering just how stats and leveling work in AI Limit. It’s very much like other games in the Soulslike genre, with players spending points to level up individual stats at checkpoints known as Branches. For those who like their stats streamlined, AI Limit will satisfy. There are only five core stats that players can improve, and they each affect multiple aspects of the character. These are the best stats to upgrade in AI Limit and how they help the player.

1

Life

Health Boost

  • Affects: Health total, Stability

Life is probably the most important stat to invest in for new players. This increases the player’s health total by 15 up to level 13, then 20 up to level 25, then 25 up to level 30, then 30 up to level 40. After this, diminishing returns kick in, going back down to plus 20 health per point up to level 50, then just 8 points per level thereafter. But that means that the player is gaining value with these life level ups until they get up to level 40 at least.

AI Limit is a challenging game, so having extra LP is always going to be a good choice, allowing for a greater margin for error if players want to focus on counters over blocking. Like most other stats, putting a level into Life will also increase an attribute called Stability. This stat governs how much Sync Gauge players lose when getting hit.

2

Vitality

Sync Gauge

  • Affects: Conversion, Stability

The Sync Gauge is one of the most important aspects of combat in AI Limit. This gauge fills as the player hits enemies and is reduced if the player gets hit. Having a low Sync Gauge will reduce the damage a player does, whereas having a high Sync Gauge will increase their damage. The Vitality stat is very important if players want to keep their Sync Gauge high.

In the early game of AI Limit, the following weapons will serve players reliably for some time.

The Vitality stat increases both Conversion, which increases the amount of Sync Gauge gained when hitting enemies, and Stability, which decreases the amount players lose when hit. Since special moves, ranged weapons, and spells all consume Sync Gauge when used, maintaining the Sync Gauge is a balancing act in AI Limit. High Vitality can help make this a lot easier.

3

Strength

Heavy Damage Scaling & Defense

  • Affects: Strength weapon damage, Defense/Resistance

While they’re not the only way to get through AI Limit, speccing into Strength-based weapons offers one of the easier starts for new players. The relatively high single-hit damage and the stagger potential of strength-based options means that players can more easily interrupt enemy attack chains and even stun-lock enemies with weapon skills.

Increasing the Strength stat is essential for meeting the requirements of Strength-based weapons, but each point spent also increases their damage based on the weapon’s inherent scaling modifier. The standard Greatsword has a C rating for Strength scaling, which equates to a moderate damage increase for each point spent, for example. As with other stats, spending points in Strength also increases the player’s defense and resistance by a small amount.

4

Technique

Nimble Damage Scaling & Resistance

  • Affects: Technique weapon damage, Defense/Resistance

For players who want to play with weapons that attack quickly and allow them to be mobile, then Technique is the attack stat to invest in. Weapons like the dual blades and other dexterous options rely on Technique as their main scaling stat. This works the same as any other attack stat; a weapon with a higher letter grade for Technique scaling will benefit from more damage when this stat is leveled.

16 Soulslike Games Easier Than Dark Souls

Dark Souls is a classic, but notoriously difficult game. For gamers who want something more forgiving, these similar titles are great choices.

Other later-game weapon types and options that don’t totally rely on Technique may also require a small investment in the Technique stat to meet their requirements, too. That means that a lot of players will have to put at least a couple of points into Technique eventually. Like other stats, investing in Technique also raises defense, resistance, and stability by a small amount.

5

Spirit

Magic Damage Scaling & Defenses

  • Affects: Spirit weapon/magic damage, Defense/Resistance

Spirit will probably be the stat that most AI Limit players will end up ignoring or at least treating as a minor stat at best. At least in the first portion of the game, there aren’t too many weapons available with Spirit scaling, and even most of the weapons that rely on it later have Spirit as a secondary scaling stat to either Strength or Technique.

Spirit does increase the damage players deal with their ranged magic, though, so despite not being the best main stat focus, it can be a useful support stat for those who want some potent ranged options. Putting points into this stat at the start will just end up making early bosses tougher, though. Investing in Spirit has the same effect on defense, resistance, and stability as investing in the other stats, too.
