  • Elemental and status-effect weapons like Opossum’s Sais and Envenomed Blade provide unique tactical advantages early on.

The anime-inspired soulslike AI Limit has managed to gain quite a few fans in the short time since it was released. The game stands out despite entering a crowded genre at the same time as other highly regarded soulslikes like The First Berskerker: Khazan. AI Limit: 8 Beginner Tips & Tricks

Starting a new playthrough of AI Limit? Keep these beginner tips in mind to gain an advantage over Arrisa’s opponents.

There are plenty of weapon options in AI Limit, with 32 melee weapons in the game alone. There are different weapon types, from Greatswords to Drill Fists, and weapons all come with their own skills. Players won’t have access to all the options right from the start of the game though, and like many soulslikes, knowing what weapons players want to spec toward in terms of stats can be useful going in. These are the best starter weapons and early-game weapons in AI Limit.

Blader Swords

Starter Dual Blades

AI Limit starting weapons
  • Location: Starter Weapon or Sewer Town – Courtyard of the Tree Branch to Central Garden
  • Attack Damage: 100
  • Stats/Scaling: Strength 10 (E), Technique 12 (C)

After players get through the tutorial section of the game, they’ll meet an important NPC who offers one of three choices for a starter weapon. The Blader Swords are Dual Blades, the option with the lowest damage, but the fastest attack speed.

For players who want to be mobile and spec into Technique, the Dual Blades are the option to go with, but they offer the least base damage and stagger potential of the three starter weapons.

8

Blader Longsword

Starter Straight Sword

AI Limit longsword
  • Location: Starter Weapon or Sewer Town – Center Branch to Underground Shaft
  • Attack Damage: 130
  • Stats/Scaling: Strength 10 (D), Technique 10 (E)

The Blader Longsword is another potential choice for a starter weapon, and this one sits in the middle of the three in terms of damage and attack speed. Longswords tend to rely on balanced stats and could be considered the most straightforward weapon in the game. They work much like a straight sword in any other action RPG, reliable but not spectacular in any one area.

7

Blader Greatsword

Starter Greatsword

AI Limit Blader Greatsword
  • Location: Starter Weapon or Sunken City Overground – Rooftop Street Branch to Hotel Corridor
  • Attack Damage: 160
  • Stats/Scaling: Strength 12 (C), Technique 10 (E)

Of the three starter weapon choices, the Blader Greatsword is arguably the best. It has the highest attack damage with the trade-off of the slowest attack speed, but it also has the highest stagger potential of the starter weapons, which can make dealing with early regular enemies a lot easier.

16 Soulslike Games Easier Than Dark Souls

Dark Souls is a classic, but notoriously difficult game. For gamers who want something more forgiving, these similar titles are great choices.

For players who want the easiest time navigating the early maps of AI Limit, the Greatsword is the option to go with.

Corrupted Blader Swords

Dual Blade Upgrade

AI Limit lost blader corrupted blader swords
  • Location: Twilight Hill – Withered Forest Branch to Twilight Foothills
  • Attack Damage: 95 (Plus 10 Piercing)
  • Stats/Scaling: Strength 11 (E), Technique 13 (C)

Piercing damage is a powerful status effect in AI Limit. This acts like a stacking bleed effect but also increases the player’s ability to interrupt enemy attacks. This can be a highly valuable addition to the Dual Blades, which have relatively little stagger potential on their own.

These Blades aren’t found super early in the game, though, and players have to defeat a handful of bosses before they’ll be able to get to the forest area and claim them from the Lost Blader there.

5

Corrupted Blader Longsword

Straight Sword Upgrade

AI Limit defeating lost blader corrupted blader longsword
  • Location: Sunken City Overground – Flooded Street Branch to Survivor’s Stronghold
  • Attack Damage: 113 (Plus 13 Piercing)
  • Stats/Scaling: Strength 10 (D), Technique 10 (E)

The “Corrupted” versions of the starter weapons all deal piercing damage, a highly effective status effect in AI Limit. The Corrupted Blader Longsword can be found in the Sunken City Overground, so it can be obtained a little earlier than the Corrupted Dual Blades.

Players need to defeat the Lost Blader in the area near the Survivor’s Stronghold to find the sword, which is the best early upgrade for the Longsword weapon type.

4

Pardoner

Boss Scythe

AI Limit pardoner
  • Location: Sunken City Overground – Rooftop Street Branch (Defeat Three-faced Pardoner)
  • Attack Damage: 150
  • Stats/Scaling: Strength 16 (D), Technique 12 (D)

Defeating the Three-faced Pardoner will be one of the toughest tasks players are asked to do early on in AI Limit. This challenging boss can be found in the Sunken City Overground near the Rooftop Street Branch.

These great soulslike (and soulslike-adjacent games) emphasize the spirit of adventure through their thrilling combat and enticing narratives.

Defeating the boss will get players their Scythe, Pardoner, as a reward, and this is a great alternate weapon choice relatively near the start of the game. The weapon has good damage, looks impressive, and the unique skill, Arc of Sins, is fun to use.

3

Opossum’s Sais

Elemental Blades

AI Limit boss fight dual blades
  • Location: Sunken City Overground – Flooded Street Branch to High Street
  • Attack Damage: 124 (Plus 28 Fire)
  • Stats/Scaling: Strength 10 (E), Technique 15 (A), Spirit 11 (C)

Elemental damage-based weapons aren’t easy to come by early in AI Limit. For Dual Blades players, though, the Opposum’s Sais is an early fire damage-based option that couldn’t be easier to obtain.

The Opposum’s vending machine near the Flooded Street Branch in the Sunken City Overground sells these blades for 5500 crystal. Elemental damage simply adds damage on top of a weapon’s physical attack in AI Limit, so these blades can output decent damage if enemies have a fire weakness.

2

Envenomed Blade

Poisoned Sword

AI Limit Stagger
  • Location: Sunken City Overground – Rooftop Street Branch to Lounge
  • Attack Damage: 125 (Plus 15 Poison)
  • Stats/Scaling: Strength 12 (C), Technique 12 (D)

Poison can be another useful status effect in the game, but it’s mostly inflicted via spells and ranged options. Longsword users can obtain the Envenomed Blade once they progress a way into the Sunken City Overground, though, and this sword inflicts poison by default on top of its physical attack.

The damage over time from poison can help with whittling down larger enemies for players who prefer to play defensively.

1

Corrupted Blader Greatsword

Greatsword Upgrade

AI Limit Corrupted blader greatsword
  • Location: Outer Walls Ruins – Slums Branch to Abandoned Houses
  • Attack Damage: 142 (Plus 17 Piercing)
  • Stats/Scaling: Strength 13 (C), Technique 10 (E)

The Corrupted Blader Greatsword is the first real upgrade that Greatsword users will get access to in AI Limit, but it’s powerful enough that it can stay relevant throughout the game if upgraded. There’s another Lost Blader in the Abandoned Houses near the Slums Branch of the Outer Walls Ruins. They have to be defeated for players to obtain the sword, but it’s well worth the effort.

The high attack damage, plus the additional damage and interrupt potential from the piercing damage, make this Greatsword one of the best early-game weapons in AI Limit.
