Beedrill ex Guide (Decks, Strategies, Meta)

Pokemon TCG Pocket’s Shining Revelry expansion brought several notable additions to the Grass-type archetype, with Beedrill ex being one of the most impactful. Right after the set’s release, the bee-like Pokemon quickly gained popularity, particularly among players looking to counter the Giratina ex & Darkrai ex meta.

Pokemon TCG Pocket: The Best Giratina ex Deck

Giratina ex is set to become the dominant Pokemon in TCG Pocket’s Shining Revelry era, and here’s the deck driving its success.

Thanks to its move, Crushing Spear, Beedrill ex deals 80 damage to the opponent while also stripping away one of their attached Energies. This has made it a key counter against top meta decks, as many of them rely heavily on ramp strategies.

If you’re looking to understand the Beedrill ex meta in Pokemon TCG Pocket, you’re in the right place. This guide covers the best deck builds for this Grass-type Pokemon, explores its performance in PvP matches, and explains why it’s become one of the top anti-meta choices.

The Best Deck for Beedrill ex

While Beedrill ex has proven to be flexible, its most effective deck shell pairs it with Meowscarada. The strategy revolves around using Sprigatito, Meowscarada’s base form, to draw essential cards while setting up Beedrill ex as the primary damage dealer on the Bench.

Key Trainer cards include Erika, the primary healer; Pokemon Communication, a deck-search tool; and Giant Cape, which boosts HP. Interestingly, Poke Ball can be left out, as Sprigatito’s Cry for Help attack already pulls a random Grass-type Pokemon from the deck into your hand.

How to Play the Beedrill ex & Meowscarada Deck Effectively

the strategy for playing beedrill ex in pokemon tcg pocket.
  1. Open with Sprigatito, using its attack to draw key evolution lines, and evolve it into Floragato as soon as you’re ready to deal damage.
  2. If your opponent’s Active Pokemon is an ex card, evolve Floragato into Meowscarada and start dealing 130 damage per turn.
  3. Meanwhile, set up Beedrill ex on the Bench and boost its HP with Giant Cape.
  4. When Meowscarada is knocked out, switch to Beedrill ex to continue applying pressure. For maximum impact, pair Beedrill ex’s attack with Team Rocket Grunt’s ability—ideally playing Team Rocket Grunt the same turn you bring out Beedrill ex, especially against a ramped-up Active Pokemon.

For those unfamiliar, Team Rocket Grunt flips a coin until you get tails, removing an Energy from the opponent’s Active Pokemon for each heads. Combined with Beedrill ex’s ability to discard Energy, this can effectively shut down the opponent’s attacks for multiple turns.

Beedrill ex Alternative Decks

A popular alternative deck for Beedrill ex is a standard lineup with Exeggutor ex. The strategy is simple: start with Exeggcute and evolve it into Exeggutor ex as soon as possible. This setup lets you deal 80 damage per turn with just one Energy, buying time to build up Beedrill ex on the Bench. The goal is to start disrupting the opponent before Exeggutor ex is knocked out, ensuring Beedrill ex is ready to take over before you lose two points.

Giant Cape and Erika are essential in this alternative deck, helping to keep Exeggutor ex in the Active Spot longer. You’ll also rely on deck-search and draw cards like Pokemon Communication, Poke Ball, and Professor’s Research to ensure you complete the two required evolution lines.

  • Average Win Rate: ~ 49.72%
  • Estimated Tournament Appearance: ~ 800
  • Estimated Meta Share: ~ 4.5%

Recent Pokemon TCG Pocket data indicates that Beedrill ex’s popularity is rising in PvP, partly due to its strong performance against Giratina ex and Darkrai ex decks, which heavily rely on ramped-up Energy. So far, Beedrill ex has achieved a 65% win rate against these setups, solidifying its position as one of the top anti-meta decks in Shining Revelry.

However, we’re still a long way from having a perfect Beedrill ex deck, mainly because it is one of Pokemon TCG Pocket’s clunky Stage Two Pokemon. This limits the flexibility and creativity in deckbuilding. If Beedrill ex were a Stage One or Basic card, it would likely have a stronger chance to dominate the metagame and become a top-tier choice.
