Summary

  • Nintendo has revealed eight new amiibo, seven of which will be released on the same day as the Switch 2.
  • Four characters from Tears of the Kingdom have been turned into amiibo with one more joining them at a later date.
  • Street Fighter 6 will also be getting three amiibo when it launches on the Switch 2.

The Nintendo Switch 2‘s first Direct has come and gone, and even though it wasn’t confirmed during the presentation, Nintendo has confirmed since that amiibo will be compatible with the Switch 2. That’ll be why it has also revealed seven new figures will be released on the same day as the Switch 2, with one more coming at a later date.

Understandably a little lost in the Direct 2 news, Nintendo has shown off four new Tears of the Kingdom amiibo that will be available to buy from June 5, the same day that the Switch 2 will be released. That’s likely tied to the Zelda game being one of many Switch 2 owners will be able to upgrade, for a price, to get its next-gen version.

Nintendo has revealed the prices for its Switch 2 and the console’s launch games.

As for who from Hyrule will be joining the Tears of the Kingdom amiibo collection, the new figures releasing on June 5 are amiibo versions of Yunobo, Sidon, Tulin, and Riju. A Mineru’s Construct amiibo has also been announced, but it doesn’t currently have a release date.

Nintendo Has Revealed Eight New Amiibo

Seven Of Them Will Be Released On The Same Day As The Switch 2

Not only are at least five more characters from Tears of the Kingdom getting new amiibo, but Nintendo has also revealed some Street Fighter 6 figures will join them on the same day. A rare example of characters from a third-party game that aren’t on the Super Smash Bros. roster getting the amiibo treatment. Street Fighter 6 is coming to the Switch 2, with Luke, Kimberly, and Jamie getting their own amiibo to go along with it.

That’s at least eight new amiibo releasing during what will officially be the Switch 2 era, but no sign of any newly announced games getting amiibo too. While it might have been surprising to see Mario Kart World get its own amiibo, Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Imprisonment was also revealed during today’s Direct. Some even assumed the newly revealed amiibo were tied to that, but the new Zelda game won’t be here until the end of the year.

Nintendo has given off the impression that it’s not sure how it feels about continuing on with amiibo. Tears of the Kingdom and Street Fighter 6 getting new figures is a positive sign, but so many other Nintendo games, particularly Super Mario Bros. Wonder, haven’t received any amiibo attention whatsoever during the Switch’s last couple of years. At least we now know amiibo will be compatible with the Switch 2.
