Gen 9 introduced over 100 new Pokemon, as well as new special critters called Paradox Pokemon, which either represented ancient past versions or futuristic forms of other creatures. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Will Get a Free Nintendo Switch 2 Update
Overall, it’s unsurprising to see Pokemon Scarlet and Violet receiving a next-gen update, as these games are incredibly popular. When considering the best-selling Switch games, Scarlet and Violet appear in 7th place, behind Pokemon Sword and Shield and other Nintendo games like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
Apart from optimizing these Switch titles, Nintendo has 20 launch games confirmed for the Switch 2. The list includes new games such as Mario Kart World, but also ports of a few popular titles such as Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition, Hogwarts Legacy, and Street Fighter 6. The number may go up before the console’s release, however, as other third-party companies may still confirm more titles.
First-party Switch 2 games which have already been confirmed include Pokemon Legends: Z-A, Mario Kart World, Donkey Kong Bananza, and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment. Pokemon Legends: Z-A is likely the most exciting one for fans of the franchise, and is expected to release sometime in 2025. A recent leak showcased the full list of new Mega Evolutions appearing in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, which includes critters such as Victreebel, Dragonite, Feraligatr, Meganium, Emboar, Delphox, and others. It should, however, be taken with a grain of salt, as it’s unofficial information.
